Ok that's fair I suppose but Marquez being a lightweight moving up two weight divisions is a cheap "I beat the P4P Number 2" trophy when the fight was totally in Floyds favour being at his best weight
I asked if Shane was in his prime, you said it does not matter. I said it does matter and you write this. Why?
well this is a tough one.... im going to be honest here i can see both arguments for both guys. I think it honestly comes down to boths performences, but if Mayweather beats Mosley impressively, hes going to make it a tough decision for anyone wanting to be objective about it IMO. The reason i wouldnt is because i believe that one should have to lose or be unimpressive to lose that title, or be continuassly underwelming in their selection of opponent..... and Pac hasnt just been impressive, hes been spectacular. And should he go on to dominate Clottey (whos never been dominated really) then he will have done all he can do to keep his title. I just dont think one fight like this should mean pacs dethroned of his p4p status.... now if pac went on to fight malignaggi or something and then mayweather went on to fight bradley or williams and then win impressively i probably WOULD have him overtake pac despite the outcome of pacs fight. very very close... id probably side with pac but just barely, in that he keeps his title. Pac and Mayweather truly is a modern day rivalry in the brewing, thats for sure.....
If Clottey wins were is he ranked? That is what I am wondering. His loss against Margarito should be overlooked in retrospect, that Chico probably had loaded gloves.
I can understand why they might do this. Pacquiao was only able to pick up the #1 spot because Mayweather retired, and even though Manny may have overtaken him anyway with the last three fights he's had, Mayweather stomped a mudhole in Pacquiao's daddy Juan Manuel Marquez. Mayweather has also readily taken on the Welterweight to beat, Shane Mosley, the guy Pacquiao avoided. That's not necessarily my interpretation, but it would almost certainly be The Ring's.
It doesn't matter if he's in his prime. According to Ring Magazine, he's the 3rd best fighter on the planet. Mayweather is not in his prime either. He's still a damn good fighter.
Molsey is the recognized #1 welterweight in the world. P4P is some bullshite title Ricky Hatton invented when he fought Pacman.
Why is this being discussed as a 'title'? Isn't it simply who is considered the best P4P at any given moment?
:happy funny how neither kel1941 or enzo responded to this. This is the real /thread if you disagree, please refer to the pac exposed vid thread. The only win that i give pac more credit for is cotto as opposed to floyds win over JMM...and even than cotto was done (cotto is my favorite fighter) and they couldnt even man up and fight him at 147 but were able to fight DLH and Clottey at 147. Pac's last three fights have been a farce so yes if floyd comfortably beats SSM i'll say he is #1 regardless of what pac does to turtle-shell clottey. if SSM wins though i wouldnt put him at #1 tho just like i wouldnt have put hatton at #1 had he beat pac.
ditto.... if Pac KO Clottey as Roach predicted.. while Mosley/Mayweather went to the score cards then the P4P stays w/ Pacman... :good
That's a tough call...but I'd have to say that anyone that thinks it ISN'T a tough call and should be 100%, unquestionably Floyd or unquestionably Manny is probably a nuthugger of one or the other. It's a CLOSE CALL, admit it. I'm tempted to give Pac the edge by the simple fact that he's traversed so many weight classes in his last 5 fights. He went from fighting Diaz at lightweight to fighting Clottey at full welterweight (no catchweights this time around). Floyd, on the other hand, is still a masterful defensive genious and every time we think he's finally in there with someone that's gonna rock him, he finds a way to make his opponents look ordinary. Based on the competition (Mosley vs. Clottey), I'm definitely going to have to say Mayweather's win will be more impressive, no matter how he gets it (boring decision or KO) because Shane is the tougher opponent. After seeing the amazing performance Shane pulled out against Margarito, it's hard for me to believe that Shane's that far out of his prime. Then again, I will concede he had a pitiful performance against Mayorga in the previous fight (Mayorga was actually outboxing him for a while, which was pretty embarassing considering it was MAYORGA). I have Pacquio ahead at the moment just based on his recent achievements, even though I think Floyd is the better boxer, and I'd have to put them neck and neck if they both get past their respective opponents.
