I mean at the end of the day, the p4p list would seem worthless compared to where it nets Manny all time but would that displace Canelo as p4p number one? Conversely where would Spence rank if he beats Pacquiao decisively in the p4p rankings?
depends on how he wins. if he outboxes spence, i think he gets a big boost into the p4p rankings, but wont displace canelo. beating crawford after would.
I almost feel Spence has that unique mix of dominance with a bit of vulnerability due to his evenness and attribute balance. Nothing truly stands out so people always underestimate his ability to leave endings undeniable. Still, if Pac won it would be huge regardless of the outcome unless it was controversial which can be completely subjective, based in the eye of the beholder type of ****. I think Crawford can only be beaten, while in his prime, by someone as gritty as Spence.
i think its his willingness and ability to transition smoothly between offence and defense. he knows when to press and when to back off. so when he backs off, people see at as ineffectiveness in what he does. when hes actually doing exactly what hes wanting to do, which is keep you working, either on defense of offense, whichever is needed to keep you getting depleted. its in the later rds that he starts kicking up the gears to reveal your conditioning and heart.
With all these old guys in the mix we may need a Year for Year list soon. If he wins he should be top 3 P4P for old times sake. I expect an old rusty Pac is still top 10 in the division, so a win is neutral for Spence. The only fights for him that move the needle are Crawford, a Porter rematch where he wins convincingly, or someone at 154. Ortiz and Ennis are close.
P4P # 1. Errol Spence — young, prime, undefeated beltholder Keith Thurman — young, prime, undefeated beltholder Adrien Broner — shut Broner out 12-0 Lucas Matthysse — KO'd a rejuvenated Matthysse who had just stopped a Thai dude and Emmanuel Taylor (never been stopped) Side note: I think it's hilarious that people accused Pac of avoiding black fighters when he fought Bradley, Mayweather, Mosley, Clottey, Broner, Thurman, and now Spence.
At age 40, he beat Thurman At age 42, he beats Spence. That's 2/3 of the best at a weight class he isn't even supposed to be competing in. Throw in the fact that he's much smaller than both guys and much older, it's more than enough to snatch the P4P #1 spot from Inoue.
what does age have to do with p4p? p4p is just a measure of who is operating at the highest levels. who is the complete package in a fighting machine. being old is not a plus in rating p4p. it means something in atg rankings, but not current p4p.
Almost want to make an age4age rankings lmao. Donaire and Pacquiao would be at the top for sure with them breaking records for their weight class. Wonder who else would be in this.
With Crawford campaigning in or around the weight class Pac would need a W over him to get a spot anove him, simply put.
P4P lists are subjective anyways. I look at cohesively as a body of recent work. Crawford doesn't have a better win than Thurman. Crawford's resume is dreadful.
