Yes, I did watch the post-fight interview. In addition to saying you can't win them all and his endless apologies, he also made note of the fact he was supposedly drained, the size of the gloves, and even went as far to say, "Had I been wearing my super gloves I'd have knocked Morales out". I'm paraphrasing but you get the point. It's easy to be humble when you're on top of the world but when he loses, Manny has excuses just like every other fighter.
People make it sound worse than how he actually said it. Saying "If I had my preferred gloves, my punches' impact would probably be stronger" is not as bad as "If I had my Cleto Reyes, i would have definitely won and KTFO him". And people keep on saying "I lost because of my socks". People just like fudging up the original quotes. I've said before, he's not a saint, and he's far from being the perfect athlete, but people sometimes exaggerate stuff to make his quotes look worse than what it actually was. How would you be able to understand the interview, btw?
I'm not defending him to the end and hugging his nuts. I've stopped becoming a huge fan of him, outside the ring, since the mid 2000's. (I was a huge fan of teen-early 20's Pacquiao, the man. I really was. He was a role model) And he's done some things that I really did not like, outside the boxing ring. But also, some people purposely try to make him worse than he actually is.
He was talking to Larry Merchant after the fight and he was speaking some English. He definitely said he would have knocked Morales out had he been wearing his preferred gloves, and I don't recall him giving Morales any congratulations in the ring. After the fight to the press? Perhaps, but during the post fight interview, it was all sour grapes.
He really is the most humble ever. I heard him bragging about it several times. "Oo, oo, look at me. I'm so humble I'm the most humble person in the whole world. I'm da best. I'm da best. I'm only lucky because GOD CHOSE ME SPECIFICALLY FOR GREATNESS!" and I was like "Damn. I had no idea he was this humble and likable."
We dont have the HBO broadcast here, usually. I only see the HBO version, if I look for it on the net. We usually have the TOP RANK (Sheridan/Bontempo) or the local guys. On the local post fight interview in tagalog, it was not all sour grapes at all. I remember I was even a bit annoyed why he was not as "upset" as I was with the loss, and he was almost cool about it. I've said that before on PACLAND, and the TAMBAYAN discussions. Almost like he was totally fine with being beaten, and didnt want to get back.
I am a fan of the boxer. And what he does in the ring. Not the man. And his extra curricular work and side projects and all that stuff.
It was sour grapes on the HBO feed, B. Nothing further to add. I'm only illustrating the point that Manny has pride like any fighter, and finds it hard to accept defeat. When you're winning, beating the living **** out of everyone, I tend to think it's pretty easy to remain humble.
Reports of getting into a drunken bar fight in his town, one time. Of course the womanising. Aligning with politicians who got a bad reputation. Gambling (Cockfights, pool games, etc.) His showbiz career His entourage And some other stuff. I think he's trying to change that now. I'm not labeling him as a sinner or evil. Just not a total role model. He was so awesome back when he was just a wide eyed country kid who just loved to fight. Really simple kid.
There is some grain of truth to it, isn't it? This was validated by the succeeding fights w/ Morales. Telling the truth does not indicate a man's pride or false self-esteem. The guy is just sincerely telling what he feels.
