Patterson was decked initially by a Frenchman or French Canadian, last name Crecy..that was his fight right after the loss to Maxim. He was then decked by Rademacher once, Harris once, Johansson 9 times, McNeeley was credited with a flash kd so I read, but I have the damndest time in seeing that when I look at the film, 4 times by Liston, 1 time by Ali, 4 times by Quarry, and 1 time by Bonavena for a total of 23 knockdowns suffered in his career.

Very suspect chin. Patterson was a good athlete. As such the off balance excuse is over used. Video would be best to judge.

Jacques RoyerCrecy was a decent standard middle who campaigned in America but I don't think he was a banger.Patterson was knocked out as an amateur too but whatever there was nothing nothing up with the mans heart.
Too much emphasis on chins usually by posters who've never boxed

    Greetings 'crimson hooded one' :D
You've done your homework, the Jean-xxx-Crecy was his first.
Here's my take on all his KD's:
Crecy (sort of a flash) he won easily.
Rademacher (I am SO sick of people bringing this up!) It was one of the most lopsided HW title beatdowns in history.
Things were different then. Pete was a pro-amateur (unheard of nowadays) 7-8 yrs. older than Floyd, 20+ pounds heavier and does hold a clear pro victory against Chuvalo.
Flash KD utterly and completely. :patsch
Harris? Flash. You know Floyd; why did it take him 24 rounds to dispatch Harris/London just shows his, almost, total lack of killer instinct.
Ingo, OK, 7 in the 3rd in the first and he kept getting up. In the 3rd we can all agree he probably was back to his "I don't want to hurt anyone" mentality which led to his first round problems.
Sonny? OK but he was rising!
McNeeley? I saw nothing as well.
Ali in Vegas, 6th round I think. A 'pitter-pat' shot.
Quarry 1? Two big bombs in the second, the second one was as hard a right as Quarry could throw. The result? Patterson got up and kicked young Quarry's ass and gave Jerry a draw with, once again, a passive effort in rounds 9 and 10.
Quarry 2? Two flashers. He should have beaten Jerry both times.
    Bonavena? Either a flash or a half-push.
I'll defend my childhood hero 'til the cows come home'! Feel free to send any 'Floyd-detractors' my way anytime.
    Blessings! J

:cheers:cheersjowcol my man!! Yes, i agree with you,...Floyd should have beaten Quarry on both occasions...in other words, Floyd was robbed twice, due to that screwy California system of scoring, the infamous "five points must" system. Don't forget that Floyd sent the iron-chinned Quarry to the deck in the 7th round of that first robbery,...with an almost invisible, fast as hell shot to the chin, which should have cemented the decision win for Floyd. The Harris kd was a case of Floyd tripping over his own feet, not because of any legitimate trip to the canvas courtesy of ol' "Cut and Shoot" Harris.
The Bonavena kd was, as you say, a flash thing more akin to an off balance Patterson, not that Oscar didn't have the capacity to really deck Floyd,...he just didn't. The Ali kd took about a thousand pitty-pat "punches" on a back injured, in pain Floyd Patterson, and if anyone, ...ANYONE can point out the McNeeley phantom "kd", I'd be much obliged. I too, ol' buddy, am a lifelong fan of Floyd's and these trips to thwe canvas don't diminish him at all.

These two posts are spot on, in my view. They have saved me a lot of typing and have covered the mixed bag of knock downs better than I could. I can only add that the big punching Ingo couldn't keep Floyd, a defenceless, target down. In 20 years at the top, only the ferocious Sonny Liston (twice) could put the 5' 11, 194 lb down for the 10 count, and even then, he was up at 11. Underrated, without a doubt.

His chin was OK until Liston hit it. Which beggars the question, how would it have stood up to Frazier, Foreman, Tyson, Lewis, the K2 bros, and suchlike?

His chin was probably average for a decent fighter his size.

What people rarely mention is that his defence was pretty sh!t.
Sorry, that Cus D'Amato peek-a-boo thing wasn't much of a defence, it was primarily an attacking stance/guard and only worked at all because of Floyd's incredible handspeed.
