Is Paul Williams power underestimated?

I feel that a lot of people tend to acknowledge that Paul Williams is a relentless fighter that puts out a lot of punches, has solid skills, and an effective jab. But I feel that people underestimate his power. For some reason it never seems to get mentioned. I feel that the reason is because it kind of erupts sporadically. A perfect example is his fights with Quintana. In one fight, he has a lot of trouble with Quintana, and then in the next fight, it's a one round wipeout. He also beat up Shamba Mitchell before that vicious uppercut combination, and then most recently he cleaned Kolle's clock (at 160 no less), and then stopped Verno Phillips (who's an excellent belt holder at 154). I just feel that his power is something that isn't necessarily his only tool because he doesn't put everything behind every punch like Pavlik, but when he does he can really cause damage. And he seems to carry it at each of the three weight classes he currently is hopscotching.

I just feel that his power is underestimated because it's not his primary weapon, which is a good thing for a fighter with as many advantages as he has. What do you think? Is his power underestimated?

Won't know for sure until he fight's someone with a pulse.
(He couldn't drop Margarito, we know that already)

i think its safe to say that he gets alot of pop behind his punches.

not being able to KD Margarito imo does not mean u don't have power.

Destruction of Quintana in the 1st round should tell you something about his power.

What we know about his power is that he has some, but doesn't always opt to use it, instead going for volume.

Decent to Good Power, that can be Great if he commits to it, but tends to throw more volume shots than power shots.

I wouldn't call him a power puncher though, and his power is not really underrated, it's I think universally viewed as good.

Very good power at 147 and 154. At 160 it may be a different story. 154-160 is basically the dividing line between the big men and the small men. consider the last three champs at 160; BHop, JT, Pavlik. If Paul seriously hurt any of those guys it would shock the **** out of me.

I would credit his ko's and tko's to having speed and punching from awkward angles...

    Opponents never see it coming

I want to see how good he looks against the best @ 154 (Dzindziruk & Santos) and the best @ 160 (Abraham & Pavlik). I'm not sold on his power at these weights.

He can punch hard that is for sure, but he is such a good all-around boxer that it is being overshadowed.

so if u can't ko AM ur power is questionable...u think maybe it is underestimated since AM couldn't walk through him and LOST the fight??? ask quintana how his power is....I think he has good power for a guy his style...not the greatest but def good...pretty sure AM has a pulse and verno has a pulse...or does the margo fight just not count?

eh...maybe not with one punch but he could hurt anyone I would think with spedd and accuracy...whether he does or not is a different story...why we talking him with KP and margo with PBF though...last I checked they are the same size....margo has a great chin but lets see how his chin holds up with kp and AA
