Every so often fighters come along who are special... amazing talent, unique attitudes and what is a trend amongst all special fighters is they seem to break the traditional mold as we know it as far as getting to the top... they blaze their own trail and do things their own way...right now i see paul williams embarking on a trail that could set him apart from almost all fighters in the sport... in his hbo ring life (hbo.com/ringlife) paul said that he thought once he obtained the welterweight belt that the flood gates would open and he would get the opprotunities he was desperately looking for.... but when kermit cintron antonio margarito shane mosley and miguel cotto took different routes he came to the conclusion that belts are irrelevant pretty much.... in the future if paul continues to win we could see him in the ring with bernard hopkins, kelly pavlik, arthur abraham, jermain taylor, chad dawson, james kirkland..**** he even mentioned joe calzaghe.... pretty much anyone important between 147-168 if paul continues to win he has the opprotunity to set his name in stone as one of the best champions in our time with no belts... focusing on beating the big names and not so much worried about belts... do you believe paul williams has the opprotunity to become one of the legends of our time era and become a truly special fighter? me personally.... i love him as a fighter but i think some of the guys is to ambitious but at the same time.... literally every time we have seen paul williams since his early stages not only has he shown positive improvement in every single fight but he also showed that he can fight with numerous different styles .. boxer (margarito), slugger (quintana 2 & kolle), mixed gameplan (verno), punisher (mattyshhe)... so only time will tell... i dont think paul is in his prime form yet... i think he will continue to get better and win or lose this saturday we can continue to expect great thing from paul williams
Right now, I feel it's still his physicality that makes him potentially special. Decisively beating Winky, even an old Winky, would be proof that his boxing skill is special also.
He looks a bit special, his height is good for HW but his weight does not follow up ... I smell bulimia.
yeah i expected someone to do that this is my point.. you saw the list of guys i put together that he could potentially end up in the ring with..... lets say he gets W's over all of them (which i dont expect but who knows) what then? we would be dealing with a legendary fighter
Time will tell. I love his attitude and that he is looking to fight everyone but he is gonna need to fight and beat some other potemtial ATGs to be special in the sense you are saying. Lets not get ahead of ourselves, he hasn't beat anyone above 147 who is elite by the divisons standards or in a p4p sense. I think p4p is balls but some place a lot of stock in it. If he beats winky and winks doesn't look rusty or shop worn we will be in a much better position to judge.
nahh hes just thin. But seriously he is a good fighter but i think people overrate him a bit. Specially that **** stain max kellerman.

I hope he does, not just because i quite like PW but because boxing always needs superstars like that and it would be good to see someone with the right "fight anyone" attitude get the just reward
Seriously though, he certainly has his hands full with Winky. A win over Winky would be big for Williams and hopefully set up bigger fights down the road. you can have all the talent in the world, but if you don't get the big fights nobody cares..Hopefully the best will step up and fight him...I'd worry about Winky first of course...
I love his attitude when it comes to fighting all comers. Problem is he hasnt yet. Winky is a good start but dude has not fought in almost 2 years and is 37 yrs old. But a solid performance can help his case. Special fighters make old great fighters look foolish. We have to see how PW looks in his fight with Wink. Right now I would say he is on the verge of a breakout performance but but better opponents are needed for PW to be could a true special fighter.
