sadly he never got the opportunity to... margarito chose to fight shane for the rematch arum said he wouldnt work with paul (cotto) cintron faked a hand injury shane has said numerous chances that he would only fight him if he ABSOLUTELY HAD TO berto is to young he basically got blackballed for the welterweight division which he claims is the weight where he wants to fight at....hopefully he gets to grasp success in the future at other division and maybe welterweight at some point
lets assume Paul is special and good. Objectively he isn't gonna to hold his weight with his height for a longer time and year after year he will be forced to change divisions. Lest assume also he is good enough to get title at each division he stays. So ... where do you think he will end? Is he capable to win title at LHW, maybe Cruiser or will he be the first WW who get belt at HW?
he is 6'2 & 27 ... so as he starts to start getting larger... with his frame he will be around middle weight cause hes extremely skinny.... he doesnt have a LHW frame he is naturally very thin
he's ok, i dont think we're lookin at a hall of famer, but.....he's huge compared to the guys he's fighting, so that alone will take him places, i see him the same way i see Caballero, is he as great as Vasquez and Marquez or Juanma even? no, but he's big enough to pose a serious problem to them, same with Williams and the other elite fighters btwn. 147-154
yea your right about him missing out on big fights at WW. Its not his fault cuase he was more then willing to step in the ring with anybody. We as fans missed out as well. That Cintron fake injury was a big cop put and Arum's unwilliness to deal with Paul is a ***** ass move.
The bones are still growing with age and the skinny factor depends on the amount of muscles. Paul is very fit right now and adding like 20-30 lb should not be a big deal for him so he may easily fit to the 175 frame. Maybe the power will not follow with him at the same rate but he is more boxer than puncher right now. The question is: is he good enough (in the boxing skills sense) to keep his record straight at the higher weight classes? Is he capable to beat Pavlik, Kessler, Hopkins or Dawson if the weight difference would be removed?
why is so much emphasis made on his height.... boxing classes arent measured by height & arm length... its based on weight so everyone is on fair ground.... nobody takes away from lennox lewis' accomplishments... he was 6 ft 6 its not like he's 7 ft tall or something outlandish..... nobody really complains about thomas hearns in an all time sense and he is the same height as paul williams
this is what i want to see..... this will be the ultimate deciding factor to measure if he is truly special or not... but i dont see him going to 175... its too big... paul williams lower torso is extremeeeeeely skinny... for him to make 175 he would look like a roider cause of his skiny legs.... he would end up aroudn 160.... im sure of it or maybe even super mid... but 175 is too much weight
I'm a Williams fan. Can't wait for Saturday night and while I'm confident he'll come out on top, I am also a bit worried that like Mosley and Hopkins, Wright might teach the younger fighter to respect their elders. He won't knock Paul out but he won't make it easy either. But to answer you question; if he beats Wright convincingly, then yeah. He might just be special
Its not complaining .... he is in the advantage now with his height for sure, but this is just a gift from god, he may use it in may ways. The skills are sometimes much more important than the size ... just ask DLH whether his size was factor against smaller Floyd and PAC. SO no matter how weird torso would have Paul at 175 ... the question is still valid: Is he good enough to beat anyone from Pavlik, Kessler, Dawson or Hopkins?
Don't get me wrong, I hope he does become something special someday. But right now, he just doesn't do it for me.
difference is, you dont see the flaws that you see in Williams when you look at those 2, if you cut them both down to your average sized WW or HW, they're still clearly great fighters based off of skill level and attributes alone, you dont get that with Williams
This dude is a Middle Trynna Ko Welters. He better take advantage while the division is flooded. Because theres no way this guy can keep this up. Its all down hill when he moves to middle those guys are tough and been knoking out middles
paul is still learning tho.. thats the thing... if you watched his past 9-10 fight you will see drastic improvements... its not like lennox & thomas hearns were perfect as soon as they stepped in the ring.... they gradually got better and everytime paul steps in the ring we see improvement
