135 to 147 is not that big of a jump. It's done all the time. There's a long history of lightweights jumping the unneeded light welterweight division for a welterweight fight.
Broner's naturally bigger and stronger than Paulie. The only reason Broner can make 135 is because he's so young and his body is able to shed the weight. He's likely already out grown 135 and possibly 140 soon. Golden Boy has too much invested in Broner with him being their future money maker. They would not be putting him into a fight with Paulie Pillowfists, unless they were 100% sure he'd win and look great doing it.
broners the larger man and has always walked around at 150 even when making the 35 limit, he said so himself
Broner is 5' 7" and Paulie is 5' 9". Broner is not a big man regardless of all the talk that he is. 147 is his limit based on weight per height and age. Now Paulie can go as high as 160 although I wouldn't recommend it but 154 is not out of the question. I don't think that he is too big for Adrian but he is definitely the bigger man.
well at least compared to his competition at 135 and below, for once Broner will not be the bigger man. Against Gavin Rees, Broner had a huge size advantage. Malignaggi might not be physically imposing, but he's bigger then a lot of the guys Broner has faced in the past. However, judging from Broner's training pictures, I think Broner has gotten a lot bigger himself. but at least in this fight Broner is fighting a guy that is more his size if not slightly bigger, and it's going to be interesting to see how they matchup. I think Paulie has got to use his footspeed advantage early in this fight. I actually think in terms of strategy, it might be smart for Paulie to use the jab exclusively in the early rounds and focus on just landing the jab, and not letting Broner land anything. if you remember the Gavin Rees fight, Broner started slow and Rees was able to land some decent punches in the first few rounds. Paulie's ability to win the early rounds with the jab and make Broner push the pace could be a key to this fight.
I think it's fair to say Paulie is definitely the bigger man physically, but I think Broner has more power, though he is naturally smaller, and as they say in boxing power is a great equalizer. Despite some thinking this will be a Cake walk for Broner, the fact that Paulie has fought the higher level of competition, is naturally bigger, and is probably the most skilled fighter Broner has faced, I think Broner will struggle early, but eventually time Pauly down the stretch, and stretch him.
You can't blame Adrien broner for not making any of these fights since at that particular time a lot of fighters especially at 140lbs had already secure dates with other fighters. Adrien push to make the Ricky Burns fight and clearly Ricky Burns team didn't wan't none of Broner at all. The only option that made sense and money wise was to jump two weight classes to fight Paulie for a WW belt which he should beat Paulie with no problem. Is the guy a hype fighter sure he is but its hard to go against the kid that has tremendous talent and he only is going to get better over time.
Floyd started off @ Super Featherweight, too, and he's gone all the way up to Junior Middleweight. Broner started off @ Super Featherweight, and he's made the jump up to Welterweight. He was eventually going to get there anyway. Maybe they did move him up too quickly, but he wanted to avoid the 140-pound division. Anyway, the point is, that no, there's no size advantage for Paulie. But, Paulie does have the advantage of being used to coming in and fighting at this weight... while this is something new for Broner...
quote=1_man_army;15513209]Paulie big enough to go up to 154 or 160? atsch[/quote] Canelo,5'9" Trout 5'9" Sergio 5'10" Lara 5' 9" Mayweather 5'8" Paulie 5'9" You dam right he can fight at 154 and like I said 160 but I wouldn't recommend that because he would be a small 160 like Mayweather is a small 154.:bbb
