You bring up some interesting points. However, Pavlik is not as good as Mayweather. Therefore, the bar is not going to be set as high. In the end, we alll want to see the top guys challenge themselves. We want to see them in fights where the outcome is not all but decided before the fight starts. Most people believe that Martinez and Williams could beat Pavlik which is why not many have a problem with those fights. No one complains about Pavlik cherrypicking when he fought Hopkins due to the fact that he got his ass kicked in that fight.

Now Mayweather has fought a lot of good fighters. However, they weren't good enough for the most part to compete with Floyd. In almost all of his fights, their wasn't much doubt that he would win. That's why he gets so much ****. Many believed Hoya a had a legit shot at beating him which is one of the reasons that fight did so well. Many believe Shane can beat him, many would pick Manny to beat him. No one would've complained about the Judah fight had Judah not lost to Baldo. Those are the fights we want to see, fights where we believe either guy could win. Pavlik could fight whoever he wants. Most won't complain as long as they believe the guy has a legit shot at beating Pavlik.

Who else is there for him to fight though? Martinez seems like the best choice of opponent for Pavlik, he's easily better than any of the guys currently at 160lbs.

Pavlik has been a major dissapointment since the Taylor fights IMO, but the Martinez fight is a good first step on the road to redemption.

I know what you're sayin' wand where you're coming from. The details are what's important here. Pavlik isn't the only person here, there's a whole series of circumstances here. Pavlik couldn't stay healthy, the fights his promoter lined up were dependent on his health condition. He wasn't healthy, the fight couldn't begin. People complain about excuses, but people complain about everything. What if he fought those fights and lost miserably because of his health/injury w/out mentioning the injury. We would just assume he was washed up.

Look at it this way, Jermain Taylor became an abysmal champ after he claimed the title in an exciting fashion. Right now, Pavlik is becoming another abysmal champ, but he still has a chance to get healthy and turn it around! He's still the champ and we'll have to deal with that until he continues a slow decline or comes back.

Fighting Martinez is an exciting prospect to me. I'd love to see him take on Paul Williams, but Martinez might be a really exciting step towards "the Punisher".

Havent you heard? The punisher doesnt want anything to do with him, he moved back down in weight and ever since pavlik and arum called him out center ring we havent spotted the man. His mother has up'd the anty to $15,000 for any visible signs of him. Goosen and Paul are playing monopoly in some hideout somewhere talking about cintron.:patsch

    Agree totally with this.
Sturm, Pirog, Macklin, Glovkin, Nikam, could definitely beat PW or SM at 160. Pirog might be fighting Pavlik soon anyway as I hear he is expected to be announced as the next mandatory. I think that its the WBO strap.

Cherry picking is fighting someone you KNOW you can beat. They can be very skilled(Floyd/JMM) and some people thought JMM would win. I think i recall a whole story on ESB front page claiming JMM would KO Floyd. Pav has many options above him at 168 and I mean MANY if he wanted them. He couldve fought Abraham instead of watching him go to SMW but instead he's fighting smaller guys. Martinez is 4 or 5 inches shorter and probably going to be 15 lbs lighter come fight night

168 has about 6 other guys OUTSIDE the super six who are better than the bums Pav is fighting. Fight one of them. There are 2 belts outside the tourney. And Im talking about how Pav waited for AA to join this tourney and now is calling out this person and that person. He couldnt even whisper AAs name a year ago when the world was waiting for that fight. As for bums even they THINK they can win most of the time. And all fighters THINK they can win but cherry picking is against someone you KNOW you can beat and should beat. We'll see if Pav takes on Bute if he can scrape by Martinez. He'll make me a believer at that point.

Kind of like how Pav ran back to the ghost town we call the middle weight divsion after B-Hop spanked his ass? Now Pav has taken on three nobodies at least PW WON his fight and is taking on legit fight when he moved back down

You call what he did to martinez as winning the fight?:patsch

Alot of people would challenge you on that.

Either way, Pavlik will crush martinez, something that Paul couldnt do.......:good

I actually think Martinez/PW was a draw. Therecord books say PW won. There are plenty of people who think PW won. In any case i hope your boy beats Martinez for your sake because if not...your going to catch some hell
