Maybe because PRESENTLY MW is a pretty crappy division with AA leaving. I really hope to see KP at SMW. He did request B Hop and P Will, other then his mandatories, the guy fought J Taylor when JT was at his peak.
Pavlik either has very bad management, or very good management, depending on how you look at it. No matter how you look at it though, he's not fighting legitimate contenders, only tomato cans.
He is a professional fighter and a millionaire , you're the joke It's a tune up fight .. He is coming off almost a year of inactivity and almost died , stfu hater ... The guy will fight big names soon enough
Is he a joke? Is this thread? He's a proven MW champion. He's not having a standout year. Maybe some of that's his fault, doesn't matter. You judge boxers by what they do in the ring (relative to what they have to work with in the guy placed in front of them). In that sense he's no joke at all, unless the punchline is mere schadenfraude at the broken and battered state of the overwhelming majority of his opponents (at least one of them world class) to date - virtually all except BHop, really...
What ever the reasons for Pavlik's demise over the last 18 months, be it his own fault, his management or just bad luck the fact remains he has become a joke to most boxing fans. His upcoming fight is against a guy WHO LOST TO PETER MANFREDO in the contender TV series. That is a shameful position for a title defence, it makes Khan/Salita look like a legit matchup in comparison. Wait till his next fight is announced, see how many people actually believe it will come off. The whole Paul Williams situation was a complete farce and if it wasn't his fault he should have spoken up like any other PROFESSIONAL Boxer would have done in his situation. He also made a complete arse of himself with his comment on the super 6 tourny, ending up looking like a 10 year old taking his ball home and spitting his dummy. And this was after ol popkins made him look like a first fight debutant. Its a shame because I thinks he is a great great talent and with the right team around him he should be capable of unifying at 160 assuming Abraham stays at 168.
"the broken and battered state of the overwhelming majority of his opponents " Nice statement. Consider that along side their respective post-pavlik careers, and one must simply conclude that Pavlik is no joke. He hits a guy with right hands, and changes the man's life forever.
Some of them were night and day pre- and post-. Look at Taylor, Miranda, Zertuche (would the '05 version have struggled with Garcia and Rubio as the '08 version did?)...even McKart, who was never unbeatable, only began to appear a ringworn thirty-something after Kelly was done with him.
McKart and Zertuche are nice calls on your part. Beleive or not, I tuned in to Pavlik/McKart to see my boy Bronco take the youngster to the wood shedatsch
But would he beat Abraham at 160? I like Kelly but realistically how would he fare in the super 6? Apart from Taylor who would he beat? Even Taylor a sure fire bet, he looked much better and with more stamina against both Froch and Abraham than the Taylor that turned up for Pavlik. Saying that at 160 currently I can see anyone else who is head and shoulders better than him. Pavlik will prove himself to be a good champion in the longer term I believe, but he is far too limited to be considered as an elite champ and not even close to the ATG status lots of his fans are claiming.
Sauerland NEVER wanted Pavlik anywhere near Abraham, and THAT is your answer. In the sauerland six tourney Pavlik would be have a very good shot at making the final. That is a significant part of the reason him and Bute were not invited. Their presence would totally destroy Sauerland's ultimate goal of Kessler/Abraham in the final. anyone who can't see that is a blind fool.
