Is Pavlik-Abraham more likely now?

Abraham sucks, and every bit of it showed tonight. So AA's fans responded by jumping on ESB and hating on Pavlik. Arum does not take AA seriously because he is not a big enough name or a good enough fighter to be taken seriously. Winky and williams would both beat him, and that makes him #4 at 160. Since when does the #4 guy have some inherent right to make $2 million or more fighting the champ.

 

Pavlik should fight Sturm next, it's a rather "safe" fight and much better than Mora and Duddy. Then he's got to go for Abraham.

Abraham should be the one fighting Duddy or Mora in the US before taking on Pavlik.

 

Abraham is underrated.

 

atsch Just.... atsch He gets called ELITE and no one challenges that designation. How can that be under rated. He is close to being the most over rated boxer on ESB.

 

Wright/Williams don't fight at 160? Their fight is next month at 160. If Winky wins, we'll see Pavlik/Wright before we see Pavlik/Abraham, and that is as it should be. Any version of of Winky that can beat Paul Williams is a much greater challenge, and a much more important win, than Abraham. It's also a fight that has been brewing for years.

 

lets hope so. perhaps Pavlik will be lured in by AAs no-ko performance, that seemingly has many on this site drooling with righteousness. AA takes kelly out.

 

Dude... Saying Pavlik chased Taylor because he was an easy opponent is just not feasible. He was the Undisputed champ, with a great record and a high P4P ranking. If he wanted an easy ride, he would have kept beating bums at a sub- world-class level for the rest of his career.

Lockett and Rubio were mandatories, so you can't really use them for evidence of Bob Arum's matchmaking habits. And the Mora fight hasn't been made yet; it's just rumors.

As for B-Hop, it's true that their camp underestimated him, and thought they could add a quality name to their record in a big money fight before everyone realised B-Hop was a corpse. That was certainly pouncing on an opponent at his perceived weakness. They obviously thought they could walk through him given that Pavlik was weight drained, Bronchitis-ridden and elbow-jarred and still thought they could take the fight.

I think there is a case to say that the same will happen with Abraham. I don't like your idea that this is somehow Pavlik's habit; it's just what all trainers do: strike for maximum reward with minimum risk (Khan vs. Barrera is a recent example). Abraham is looking like he's struggling to make the weight, and he finally ran into an opponent who could take his shots and showed that AA is really just a mediocre slugger. He's at his weakness.

I'm hoping that this fight is made. They have no excuse, now. AA will be putting pressure on after his victory and Pavlik should see that he can beat this guy. After the backlash with the Mora fight, I think that's the only reasonable option.

 

I wouldn't go that far. Arum doesn't take AA seriously because he thinks he can cash in on Pavlik KO'ing a string of dummies because of his huge fanbase before having to fight a real opponent. If AA's being rejected because he's not a good enough fighter, we'd expect to see better guys fighting Pavlik. Don't tell me that Duddy or Mora are better than AA. I'm a fan of Pavlik and I think he KO's AA, and that makes it even more frustrating when the excuses are made.

 

Hermit, Boo: Nobody says he's elite and if you say Pav is a B-Level fighter then so is AA.

Nobody tries to sugarcoat AA's weak performance, not even his management or AA himself.

The only thing which is for sure is that Simon was much better than expected - better than Rubio ever was. This had nothing to do with Abraham. Simon has balls and he's not that bad technically-wise.

aa is a big puncher with a low output and weight problems. Of course he will look bad unless he gets the ko.
