Would Pavlik be hyped as much on this board if he were black?

I don't think he is, and I'm Black and Mexican.

The man can fight, doesn't matter what color he is.

I believe he would be even more hyped, remember Taylor? And all he did was get close decisions against an old Hopkins. People should stop bringing race into it, we've got a diverse sport and thats what makes it interesting.

Well, he beat the former undisputed middleweight champion of the world twice, and has looked good in his victories. I don't know though to answer your question.

I think boxing needs Pavlik. There hasnt been a great for white america since gatti. Pavlik is the right guy, hes marketable, white collar, and he can sure bang.

More the great American hope, rather then white one. I dont think they can afford to be too fussy at the moment. ;)

Anybody who comes to fight the way Pavlik does and is as likable outside the ring as he is inside it WILL get hyped. There are many other fighters who get far more undeserved hype than Pavlik.

This thread is not posted to cause controversy.

Pavlik is obviously a decent fighter but for man who has been a world champoin less than a year he is going to,according to many posters here, destroy Abraham, crush Calzaghe etc etc......... Do you see where i`m coming from?

I'm a big fan of Pavlik (He's an area guy, and people know that Cleveland/NE Ohio needs all the heroes we can get; think Mancunian Hatton fan), but I am realistic about him; he WILL get beaten, and it will most likely be by KO, but I don't think he is as bad as some people say. He can obviously punch, but I think his D is a bit underrated--he picks shots off pretty well when he isn't clowning--and his movement is not as clumsy as some people say--it seems to suit his style. I do however think that he would beat Abraham with workrate and power, especially if he gets uppercuts going, and that he could (60-40 Pav) beat Calzaghe again with power and workrate. The key with Pavlik is not his power, but his tenacity. He just keeps coming and coming, and those punches are not little piddly things. Could Calzaghe or AA beat Pavlik? Sure. It's be stupid nuthugging to say no. But I think that Kelly gets a lot of hate on here for no real reason.

Hell yes. Let's be real: there is one aspect that trumps all others when it comes to getting hype. Knockouts. Do you stop your opponent in exciting fashion, and do it often? Do you KO champions and fighters favored over you?

That's the name of the game. If Pavlik were Kid Chocolate instead of Kid Alabaster, he'd be just as hyped, if not moreso.

    nope...he's the real deal

if he was black tho he'd MIGHT have even more hype behind him because of the way he fights

then again it may be less b/c ppl think its typical

Pavlik is a good fighter but overrated at here.
