It's been so many years, but I remember Duran fighting a very smart and a careful fight not to get caught like how he did against Hearns. I believe Hagler had to blast Hearns out of there due to the cut.
I suppose that he won both fights but for an ATG Hagler wasn't a smart fighter, which probably goes to show how good the rest of his game was. Someone mentioned Vito 1 as an example and they were quite right. It was a bad decision but Hagler really took his foot off the gas at the end of the fight when he could have easily put the fight beyond any doubt.
You didn;t use smilies (always good for sarcasm)......pretty obvious though esp. given your UserName....
I am just surprised due to Sweet Pea being such a avid fan of Whitaker. By the way, did you know Sweet Pea disrespected one of my favorite fighters in Camacho. I really love reading all the posts and opinions of these threads. It is a sport I was involved in as a fighter and now training here and there. By the way, without saying the avatar's name, is there a troll amongst us for this thread?
Hagler blitzed Hearns because he Hearns was a better boxer from the outside than him. For all of Duran's bag of tricks and slipping/rolling skills and boxing ability, he was 5'6 and a master on the inside. Hearns was over 6 feet tall with long arms, and outboxed guys like Leonard and Benitez from the outside. Hagler threw caution to the wind against Hearns, probably because he had to. If he boxed more patiently from the outside, he probably would've lost.
You're really taking that to heart aren't you? Think nothing of it, it was no big deal, I was just responding to what I thought was you disrespecting Gamboa. Camacho was fantasic in his early days. Arguably the quickest fighter to ever lace em up.
1) He didn't mean it. It is called sarcasm. It was aimed at a discussion he have had with PugilisticPower. 2) No, but everyone are entitled to their opinions. What is usefull is when they can document and explain why they feel like they do. 3) Yeah, ESB is a great place, though not as good as it once was, due to too many crap ******ed posters with no agenda other than attention seeking. 4) I haven't noticed any... Could you direct me?
Thanks for pointing that out. Like I said it has been many years. The second part of my post is true though. The cut made Hagler go right after Hearns. I don't know about you guys, but there was a reunion with SRL and Hearns on I believe ESPN where Hearns made light that he had no choice, but to try to knock out Hagler due to some kind of weakness in his legs. I wish I could remember what it was. Do you or any other member have seen the reunion?
