Is the Johnson dual set his masterpiece and Mic drop? Is it worth doing a Willard episode.... Or is a Dempsey edition too hard to resist (and would he add as much to his story as so many books have already covered this ground)...

In the Jack Johnson The Reign Pollack says he won't be going passed Johnson. Too bad I would've liked to see Willard and Dempsey.

I never heard of a good Willard book. Give him some time, I think he'll pen it.

I spoke to him a while ago he said he was definitely taking a rest, he is doing a lot of refereeing etc and the books take up so much time with the research he does. Then again as you say he might not be that enthralled by Jess Willard.

No way he can resist a Dempsey book (or 2) for too long... That temptation has got to be too great. I hope so at least.

A well researched Dempsey book could really ruffle some feathers.

Since there is a lot of film/video interviews on Dempsey, the artistic liberties would need to be at a minimum.

Its a wonder so many hacky books on Dempsey have been published.

The new Willard book is pretty good.
Not Pollack level, but it has lots of new and good information. And has a pretty objective tone, and often provides numerous sides to a story.

He has covered 7 champions, only one of whom has had 2 volumes covering his life and career.

He might just be fatigued, but really, what's the point? Willard's hardly going to be worth his while in terms of readership and there are already a lot of books about Dempsey.

Totally makes sense for him to stop now, although a great shame.

I have not been overly satisfied with any of the Dempsey bios. I actually prefer the autobio because it best capture his spirit but I would love to read a meticulously researched analysis of his career.

I can't see him continuing tbh.

Eventually a hobby this intense becomes a chore. Initially you'd sit there before all the research and wanna get stuck in, after a while though you'd dread it.

I'm sure when it comes to looking at records and resume we've all had the same feeling at some point.
