Did Alexander Povektin have a good enough career to be a HOFer? He was a top 10 contender from 2006 to 2021 according to BoxRec, and a top 5 HW contender from 2007-2021, he was also ranked #2 from 2011-2013. He has wins over #3 Ring ranked Chagaev, #3 Ring ranked Whyte (who was at the time ahead of Wilder in their rankings), Huck, Byrd, Takam, Rahman (KO 2), Chambers, Ahunanya, Perez (KO 1) and Charr.
He fought in a division that was dominated by giants yet still put together a 15 year career & only lost to the divisions best in his better years.. he won't get in but I wouldn't grumble if he did.
Only a true noob would believe that top level athletes are not on a highly sophisticated hot sauce regime. Santa isn't real, too, by the way. Povetkin was never a world champion (WBA regular is not a WC belt) so he shouldn't be anywhere near a Hall of Fame. Not sure why Americans are so obsessed with this stupid concept, anyway.
They put Balboa in there. Well Stallone actually. So you just never know. There might be a time when they run out of names and lower the criteria. Or have they not already done that?
I think he'll get in eventually, but it'll be kinda like Ernie Shavers, where he'll be on the ballot for a long time and sneak in during an off year.
Getting busted with PEDs won't help - it's not that others haven't been, but the optics aren't great and despite having a very solid career it's not inarguable enough to overcome that. Very solid fighter, have enjoyed his contribution.
His faults have been called out (proven) publicly. It's easy to believe their all on PEDs when your not an athlete. Your criticism about Americans doesn't make sense.
It took years for Don Curry to get in to the point it was almost a hollow gesture to me as a fan. Thinking of some of the names in the HoF he deserves it above others.
