He's making the right decision, but at the same time his mandatory status should either be revoked or he should have to fight another eliminator to maintain it. It shouldn't still stick 1 1/2 years after initially winning it.

Povetkin is not "every fighter". He is the mandatory since December 2008!!!!!

I cannot believe that a mandatory is not willing to fight! He could fight in December but he pulls out. The IBF should him stripped off the mandatory status.

If he wants to get more time, no problem. But you cannot be the mandatory for more than one year.

I hope Wlad will fight Chambers next, Chambers deserves the shot. :good

    Big mistake by Povetkin IMO.
Chamber's is going to outbox W. Klit.

Yeah I agree they should take his mandatory status or have him fight another eliminator. But because Wlad has two belts they might decide, let Wlad just defense his belts against WBO mandatory first.

In my mind term ducking is still wrong word to use for a contender, who simply wants more time to prepare.

BTW. He injured he’s foot in December that isn’t ducking either.

He has 17 fights even with an extinstive amature background that is not a lot of experance. Granted he has beaten some good boxers like Byrd and Chambers.. Also If Chambers pulls off the upset over Wald Povetkin has already beaten him once before and should be able to again. If Wald wins as expected than he will be older and in theory eiser to beat.
He's doing the smart thing asuming that He wins his tune up.

I think Povetkin is incredibly fortunate to still have his number one ranking with the IBF. He's hogged that position for a year now.

I don't know if Povetkin can get any better but he's obviously not ready yet. He has a good boxing pedigree though and I'm hoping that he becomes good enough to give Wladimir a competitive fight. A one man (or two brother) division is boring. I want to see some real adversity.

If Chambers should indeed beat Wlad (which I don't think will happen), it is not a given that Povetkin would beat Chambers again. Their first fight was much closer than the scorecards indicated, I had Povetkin winning by 1 round - and only because Chambers got tired and let that fight go. Chambers is in shape now, and a win against Wlad would strengthen him even more mentally. Plus the rematch would happen in the US. If Chambers beats Wlad I'd put my cash on him against Povetkin.

Wladimir won't be outboxed by Eddie Chambers :nono Klitschko is far above the likes of Dimitrenko and Chambers will find that out soon enough.

i disagree that povetkin has everything. he's quite good and does what he does well but there are holes in his game to be sure.

btw am i the ONLY one on the forum who likes teddy?? i think he's got a real shot at tightening those holes (k that sounds filthy). i mean he can add a lot to povetkin's game

Povetkin is blocking contenders who are more "willing" to risk a shot at Wlad. If Povetkin doesn't want to take advantage of his #1 mandatory position then he should say so!

Atlas won't be able to help him, unless he has brass ball implants for Povetkin
