Is Povetkin hard to hit?

I prefer the Korean Tae Kwon Do myself. I started with Karate & Judo.

Wlad has adopted the Lennox Lewis style from Manny. He doesn't make himself succeptable to taking a huge punch to the chin, which lets him beat almost anyone. There's no question that his offense is first-rate. That weak chin is still there, but nobody has been able to reach it the past several years.

 

all that karate, akido, flying mantis, karte kid, belt is bull****, tae kwon do is a dance for christ sakes. nothing will beat military training period. beleive all the movies if you want, all the kicking and swinging is just hollywood. If you take thoughs lessons it just promotes a false sense of security. take judo or weapon/knife defense classes instead so instead of thinking you can beat some one up, your actually trying to defend and save your life.

Anyways. pov is very hitable, thats his damn game plan bottle up get close and swing.

To begin with, Povetkin's defence was something that was seen as a selling point but as his competition has gradually improved so has the amount of shots he's been taking.

I think he's got a better defence than your average heavyweight around at the moment, but then your average heavyweight has about zero so that's not too difficult.

I've heard some of his fans say he willingly decided to trade shots with Chambers and forget his defence to prove a point...I don't think that was a point that was particularly well made.

 

Alex is not hard to hit... But he is very hard to hit clean with a shot of any venom. I have been in the opposite corner against him and seen how he can make your fighter miss with a punch by a hairs width, just by sliding past it and carefully just padding the power off it with an open glove. Povetkin has very underrated power and is very well schooled in movement and his reflexes are absolutely unbeleivable. He is technically perfect.. A lot of people are basing thier whole critique of Alex on the chambers fight , a fight that was perhaps a bit of an off one for Povetkin and to be fair Chambers i rate very highly as an awkward so and so. Povetkin on his best day is hard to hit and hard to get out of the way of , he hits from odd angles and many fighters can't see where his offense comes from. I wait and reserve my critisism until he is put to rest , but as far as now , i beleive he can potentially make a lot of waves.. He would have battered Thompson with speed on Saturday, and never let up literally making him look like a record playing in slo-mo.. Povetkin (save your judgements) trust me..

P.S. Biggs was a different case, he had amazing tools but as a pro didn't employ them.. a shame , i am to this day a massive Biggs fan !!!

Nah! Povetkin cant be called the most mobile and fastest fighter out there.
Povetkin can be hit,and he makes you pay for doing so. Thats for sure! His chin is good. He has a proven track record at the amateurs.As far as I know only Timurziev was able to knock him down at the amateurs.Anyway ! Timurziev is a big puncher,and will probably be among the top 5 at the big boys's pro league within 3 years after he has turned pro.

The question is not whether Povetkin is hard to hit or not but whether his opponent is able to cope with Povetkin's relentless pressure or not.
Povetkin's chin has been tested before.Wlad can bang,but so could other opponents.And lets not forget that Povetkin is no Brook,Austin,or Briggs.
Povetkin plays in a different league.

 

Chambers is not this poor fighter everyone is making him out to be. He was unbeaten and coming off of a win over Calvin Brock who was a former top 5 guy. Povetkin beat him convingly. He also has dominant wins over Donald, Byrd.

A big difference between Povetkin and the other fighters Wlad has defended his title against is Povetkin comes to fight. Thompson was doing some gay dance thing prior to the fight and was a janitor. Povetkin isn't going to be discouraged and shut down, and he has the chin to take punishment.

 

Eddie Chambers had no trouble hitting Povetkin, when he decided to throw a punch that is...

 

I really hope you are right that Povetkin will be 2/1 or 2.5/1. The reason is that means I will get an awesome price on Wlad and can bet as much as possible on him.
IMO Povetkin can take a shot, but I do not think he will take those Steelhammer right hands all night. I see him folding in round 6 or 7. He will go down fighting and yes he may get up but he will quickly be reacquainted with the canvas and the referee will stop the mismatch.

 

Povetkin looked like he had the gameplan to take a few to land a few though, knowing Chambers wasn't a big puncher. He wouldn't do the same vs. Wlad.

Also, Chambers is a faster puncher than Wlad and much less predictable.

 

I hope you're right, because if he gets hit with these kind of punches by Wlad he will get knocked out fast...

And Wlad can throw some pretty fast punches too...
