It's a massive part I mean who the **** wants to watch Paulie Malignaggi tickling people? Nobody, hence people barely know he exists You don't have to be David Haye, but the knowledge that one punch can change the course of the fight, if not knock the guy out, makes it much more interesting Timing and power go hand in hand, by the way
Well when you look at the elite boxer in each division, you have to accept that power is massively important.
I would not say power is everything, but it is (to me) the most important trait a fighter should have. Here my list of reasons why: -Power is something you are born with, not learned -Power is the only thing that is going to keep a fighter 'honest', thus providing a 'defense' of its own -There are lots of fighters without chins, but with power who make it farther than a fighter without a chin, but with a lot of speed or defense.
Well Scam Cheater is supposed to be the most powerful HW of all-time according to Dino Duva and some of his fanboys but has **** technique, therefore, cannot deliver it effectively. So clearly, u need more than power to be an elite fighter.
power is not everything but is extremely valuable. if a boxer has power he always has a punchers chance. but against the top fighters power will always come unstuck. if a fighter has qucik hands and a good defence he could easily beat someone with power alone by ducking hitting and weaving and constantly moving. simple as that
Skill in terms how to throw a decent punch and timing, Power and speed for me is the most important to have in boxing. combined with a little defense will be a good arsenal in boxing because it is offensive sport.
Really?? Jeff lacy fits most of the criteria you suggested and he look like utter schit his last two fights post Calazaghe.. I'm a boxer and I can tell you Power is so overrated. It's akin to guys who think benching 300-400lbs is impressive.. Of course it has its purpose but thats like saying, "is DuNKING EVERYTHING in basketball??" Is SPEED everything to being a running back?? Is the ability to throw the ball long and hard EVERYTHIGN to being a quarterback?? The answer is unequivocally "NO" so why is boxing any different?? I agree with someone who mentioned Hearns as having the perfect combination of power and skills. Look at what happened to Mike Tyson (post cutting Kevin Rooney and definitely post prison). Mike gave up/abandoned his jab and his slipping movements mid fight where he was exposed later as a one trick puppy when he faced opposition that was able to withstand his power. If you look at the first Holyfield fight. All Mike tried to do was END IT with his right (so says the person who feels a powerful man can end it at any time) and Holyfield knew it and countered him continually. Would you like more proof?? Whats the dude with the locs name, damn. Oh yeah SHANNON BRIGGS an extremely POWERFUL boxer no one will deny but also extremely limited... Whats sad about guys that have power is that often times they fall in LOVE with it and will eschew other facets of their repetoire. Read JEFF LACY, "hey dumb ass, you ever heard of a JAB??"
So Mr Jack Presecott, when was the last time you were in a ring?? Mayorga?? You're kidding right?? Mayorga beat Forrest by catching him clean granted. The second fight was a toss up and Mayorga has pretty much been embarrassed each time he was in the ring with someone with some skills. Sorry Vargas doesn't count.. Including the ******* you despise DelaHoya so jack off to that.. What happened when Earnie Shavers fought Holmes and Ali?? Got it?? What happened when Foreman faced Ali or the "great" Axel Shultz,lol.. Got it.. You show me a guy where the soley relied on power and I'll show you someone who gets exposed when they're facing someone who chooses to fight their fight. Oh yeah David Tua and Lennox Lewis where that idiot thought he was going to land a left hook without setting it up.. Got it.. Funny you mention Cory Spinks. For him to be such a feather fisted puncher, isn't it quite amazing he's only been put on his ass once for a defeat and the then middleweight chumpion somehow couldn't figure out how to knock out as you all would say a blown up welterweight.. Power has its importance I never denied that but to act like it's the end all and use that IDIOT MAYORGA as a example without mentioning how he's pretty much been tamed is ridiculous.. Now lets see you come back and try dissect this without trying to go for some weak online insult you keyboard killer you,lol..
