when i saw thompson vs price i knew price couldnt win, given his best win is audley harrison and he has been in one match over 6 rounds shows power is an asset but not defines a fighter. what hap0pens if kovalove cant stop his oppents in his first 5 round can he fight in uncharted terrotoiry, does he have the staminer or mind set to go the long haul. gennady golovkin one of my favourit fighters, i also question this is a guy who went life and death with ouma with many people having ouma up at the stoppage, does he have the overall game to beat someone doent get hurt, like 168 pound froch. broner in the last two years the boxer he has struggled the most were boxers who couldnt be stopped, showing he has power and agresion but lacking the footwork or change statedge in a fight, if he cant hurt someone
lol what are you even talking about? Broner in the last 2 years has struggled? huh.. i mean even against paulie he came on stronger later in the fight.. lol. Power is overated though .. its unusual you get a power puncher who can box pretty well too.. i think thats where the fascination with golovkin comes in.. the guy can box too.. i wouldn't want to be one coming up with a gameplan to beat him.
Wouldn't say it's overrated, but it can be mitigated by a boxer with good defense, and enough power of his own. More than any other asset can turn a fight on it's ass though, so it is an important tool. It tends to be relied on too often by those who possess it, often to the detriment of other skills.
i siad really like golovkin but people should rember he struggled with ouma, and rosado shouldnt have lasted longer than he should, in my honest assment
Yes Power can be over rated - A fighter with all around skill, guile and the ability change and adapt will beat a fighter with power all the time. Todays boxing fans, have this notion that all a fighter needs is strong arm and granite chin and he can become champion.
Depends on who you ask. It's a valuable tool to have, but when we talk about GOAT's, I'd say 7/10 weren't known for their power. Skill is more important than raw power. Power is useless if you can't land. So to some, yeah they overrated. Anyone know knows a bit about boxing knows it's not THE most crucial attribute.
