alot of people cant afford to buy it and there for watch over things.
you will not get any new fans as there not going to pay to see if they like boxing or not.

i don't think its killing boxing in the uk at all. for years now we've loyally got up ( or stayed up ) at 4 in the morning to tune in. 30,000 going to las vegas to see hatton fight as a massive underdog ,50,000 watching calzaghe against manfredo. if the fighters who capture the publics imagination are there we will come.
may be a different matter in a couple of years when hatton and calzaghe go because there isn't really anyone coming through but then those fighters will probably be free to air so boxing will continue to be popular.
can't talk for the us or other countries though.

It is actually supporting boxing. No such thing as free lunch. If one can't buy PPV, he should check the internet for live video streaming or check the youtube after a day or two.

I disagree, of course its killing boxing. Calzaghe was a virtual unknown over here before the Lacy fight..........why????

Beacause it was on ITV (free terrestial tv). Before that his fights were only on Sky. Look at Khan and Naseem, they built themselves up on ITV before jumping to Sky.

Hatton is a special case you have to remember that, bottom line is that if boxing was on free tv would there be more fans..........answer YES!

I agree with Thunder, the little PPVs are hurting boxing and I think fighters with boring styles shouldn't be on PPV also. Fights like Cotto/Margarito and Vasquez/Marquez are no doubt PPV worthy however fights like Hopkins/Wright and Mayweather/Baldomir are not worthy.

You damn right!!! Please are you saying JC was well know before then??

Round my manor in north london, none of my mates really knew of Calzaghe, and we are all sporting lads (perfect target boxing audience). We heard of his name but never seen him fight......maybe a 30second clip here and there. I know that eveyone i knew, that the Lacy fight was the first time we had all seen the dude fight. Of course you are a boxing fan but you are in the minory.

Are you telling me the average man in the street, still right now, has even seen a JC fight. I am betting against that.......i know old women, aunts an uncles lol that have seen Khan fight (thats cause he was on ITV on a sat evening PrimeTime).

And yes i am for real!!

yes i am telling you that . calzaghe has been a household name for anyone with even a casual boxing fan in the family for years, in my opinion .
we're hardly blessed with tens of world champions are we ?
can anyone back me up on this?

Look all i'm saying is that if all my sporting mates had not seen Calzaghe fight before Lacy, then i'm sure many are in the same boat. I follow Spurs (go to many matches, unfortunately), been to wimbledon, been to the masters snooker, even know about cricket lol. I am the type of person who should of known about JC, but i saw him fight for the first time vs Lacy.

You think if Wimbledon was on sky that it would get as many numbers as the BBC. The only reason i had even heard of JC was because he had beaten Eubank. But his been a sky fighter a majority of his life and that had a massive affect to his audience. And to answer the original question, if just being in Sky means you get less of an audience then certainly being PPV you alienate even more fans, so its killing boxing.

Are you from Wales btw? Not attacking ya of anything, but in can only answer from my view and i all my local pubs, trust me when i say no one gave a toss about Calzaghe before Lacy. (I do tho, i was at the Kessler fight, so as a JC fan i am saying he is not that big IMO).
