Is Prime Joe Louis good enough to beat Riddick Bowe?

    Agreed-it is frustrating that some of the younger guys underrate the great Joe Louis so badly.

    Oh my word -what a choice ! I'd go for Joe Louis but man I still wouldn't be confident about the
    result.

    First let me say that you have made an excellent analysis of both fighters.
    Joe Louis is indeed the greatest offensive puncher in history,with perhaps
    only Mike Tyson rivalling him for that wonderful combination of speed,power,
    technique and accuracy.

    However as you pointed out Bowe was incredibly tough and determined between
    the ropes.Riddick's dreadful lack of professionalism really stopped him from
    possibly becoming one of the greatest 4 or 5 greatest heavyweight-champions in history.

    So the Riddick Bowe of the first Holyfield fight vs the peak Joe Louis ? This would be
    an absolute classic ATG fight.I'll just about vote for Joe Louis as Riddick didn't have
    a great defence but I wouldn't bet 1 penny on the outcome.
