Was prince naz truely a great fighter or just over hyped i was young at the time of his career and never seen much just here ppl saying how good he was i seen the barrera fight and his brash cocky style didnt work against a prime barrera (who i think is thought of as a great) who did naz beat were they any good or did he beat a bad bunch and then come up against a great fighter and was prev untested, also what happened 2 him afterwards did he fight again let us know guys
"Had Vazquez not been (deliberately) stripped by the WBA of his belt (they did not want their featherweight title unified with the WBO) Hamed would have the distinction of being the first boxer to hold all four world titles in a division. This is an overlooked accomplishment of Prince Naseem. The WBA would not grant him a subsequent shot at their championship." In my opinion he was the greatest BRITISH boxer of all time. if you watch the pre fight vid against barrera hamid training camp is absolute shambles. money, fame and arrogance destroyed hamed. he could have become the greatest feather weight of all time. he lost the desire to train hard during before and after the barrera fight and ust gave up afterwards. i think he was a great, i firmly believe if he kept his old coach and trained properly he was have destroyed barrera but it wasnt to be
If you rate boxers purely on skills he was great. But a true champion doesn't just quit in his late 20's because he decided he had made enough money. Naz quitting was the worst decision in boxing ever, he could have been one of the greatest ever instead he though.... **** it.
spot on, just a shame. boxers would kill for his type of talent but he just ****ed it up due to being a lazy twat
The greatest british boxer of all time??? please and then quoting that he could have been the greatest of all time , Hamed was very good at promoting himself , and in this catergory he was great , but talent wise , A- , and his level of opposition B at best , remember who he beat to become champion, and his true test was an up and coming JMM who he clearly avoided.
I miss that little ****er,you can say what you want about him but he was a breath of fresh air with a style and a personality different than anyone around boxing at the time and man could he punch.
I understand your first language may not be English or you just may have reading difficulties so... where did I say he could become the greatest of ALL TIME? I said he was the greatest British boxer, you do understand the countries that come under Britain right? I then said if he didn't **** it up he could have became the greatest FEATHERWEIGHT of all time, just to explain it a bit more since you obviously struggle with the English language, I am saying if he didn't **** it up he could have become the best featherweight the world has ever seen? Now please stop skipping school.
I was never a fan of the guy, but he won the WBO, IBF, WBC belts, he also beat the W Vaszquez who relinquished his WBA belt to fight Hamed, which is very good form. I guess his best wins were against T Johnson, M Medina (who went on to win more than one world title after), V Bungu, K Kelly & W Vaszquez good fighters if not greats. He also beat W McCullough who went on to give E Morales a tough fight and P Ingle who went on to win a world title. Hamed was in decline by the time he fought Barrera, and alot easier to hit at this stage of his career. He was still only 26. Hamed fought once more after losing to Barrera, beating M Calvo a European champ from Spain, but didnt look very impressive in winning a UD. Looking at Hameds career as a whole and remembering how he was able to score so many one punch KOs and how invincible he seemed earlier in his career, I would say he was a very good fighter who had a time at the top but not too long when compared to alot of modern greats. Not sure id call him an ATG but he should get a place in the hall of fame for the time he did rule the 126lb division
No, if he had beat Barrera, then Hamed would have been considered a great. But he lost, so... He's just a very good fighter who had a very good career. Definetly not a great.
he claimed it was because of bad hands thats why he retired. i remember they had to re wrap his hands a few times before he stepped in the ring with MAB. cud be bull****
He later said in his auto that its because he missed his family when going on training camps after watching the pre fight training vid of hamed leading up to the barrera fight, it was because he was lazy. he was at like 80 percent against barrera because of a poor camp and didnt put in the effort anymore
