Who you beat is a big factor in assessing H2H ability. Seems reasonable to favor more proven fighters over Hamed H2H if they are proven against better opposition. What leads you to believe Hamed is significantly better than his resume indicates?
Yes I have, the knockdowns were mainly balance issues he wasn’t badly hurt. I mean a real blood and guts fight say lasting into the late rounds or distance where he received major punishment.
Good but not great ,with top end power. Too many names missing from his resume. Beleno Gonzales Norwood Espadas Arrozar Rojas Tapia Morales Ncita Chacon Canizales Marquez Gainer Like Ubanks a WBO champ who was selective.
The only fight that comes close is the Manuel Medina fight. Medina was a gutsy battler in the Daniel Zaragoza mould who didn´t have much power but made up with it with savvy and volume punching. Like many I don´t like Hamed personally especially after the driving incident and the way he treated Brendan Ingle towards the end. Terrific puncher but best opposition was Wilfredo Vasquez Snr who had "lost" to the average Genaro Rios in his last bout it what was an outrageous robbery. Tom Johnson and Kevin Kelley were both past their sell by date and he still got hit far too much. His best win was against Vuyani Bungu who was an undefeated Super Bantam champ with 13 defenses agaisnt McKinnedy (x2) and Danny Romero. No wins of note as a feather. Hamed was an incredible and exciting talent. His fights with Kelley, Daniel Alicia, Augie Sanchez, Medina were great entertainment. Scored highlight reel knockouts over a slew of opponents especially at Super Bantam where all but one fight ended inside 6 (the 2nd round was his favourite). I think Hamed could beat the McGuigans of the World but would struggle with a someone like Azumah Nelson who would smash Hamed into a vicious defeat. Wouldn´t like to think what Salvador Sanchez or Sandy Saddler would do to him.
It takes a lot of effort to hone that talent in the gym to the level Naz did it though. And getting people to pay to see that talent with Naz's skin and scrawniness takes a lot of character. To get up off the canvas as many times as Naz did, to train as hard as he did for so many years and even as his hands deteriorated, to put on a brave face when he had every rag in the country calling his style a disgrace and he had dozens of punters in the crowd screaming at him and calling him the P word all of that does take character.
So you're saying you would rank him higher if you saw him get the **** kicked outta him then landed a lucky punch?
Hamed has had tough fights that went in the later rounds Hamed was unwell vs Medina and had to dig deep. I also seem to remember Ingle gave Hamed some trouble in the later rounds and Hamed had to step it up. I'm not a fan of Hamed but he did show heart in the ring and did survive some battles.
Yes, who you beat is a big factor in determining h2h ability (but not the only factor). Again, you are missing the point. I'm not saying Hamed deserves to be ranked h2h above people with better resumes. I'm saying people sometimes underrate him because his resume isn't very deep. Those are 2 very different things. You have frequently picked more modern guys to beat old school fighters even when the modern guy has a worse resume. So this is awfully hypocritical of you.
