    Obviously Wlad wasn't an ATG at the time.

    Are there any other fighters who have gone on to become greats who suffered a definitive loss against someone of Brewsters Calibre?

    Consider that he had something like 12 losses at the time of his upset of Wlad and was meant to be an easy victory

    (no flaming please)

    McBride or Williams stopping Tyson.
    (Tyson was well and truly shot but still an ATG.)

    Troll thread, but let's give it a chance: Puritty a low level? Sure he has lost a lot, but he had a really iron chin, and plus he was a really heavy hitter, with a mega career experience: the exactly right fella that scores upsets; but moslty, that was Waldo's 25th fight in 24 months!! Amazing, isn't it? And technically wrong, of course, it seemed more a self-destruction run..
    Plus shorlty before that fight Vitali whined in public about Waldo's at-time bad attitude to the sport, his lack of dedication; he totally gassed out in that match, trying to ko Puritty, and at the 8th round he was exausted, eating bombs after bombs, apparently indifferent to everything; his team throwed in the towel while he was on his foot, between the rounds, and he seemed disappointed by that; anyway, that was totally his fault, no doubt about it;
    Brewster? Seriously? Even a non-boxing follower can see that something happened to Wlad BEFORE the match... he was already exausted before entering the ring! Still he always got up after every knock down, eating bomb after bomb, totally breathless;
    It was his first match with Manny, that said that it wasn't punch poisoning, he can recognize it easilly; to this add all the other things, the doctor visiting wlad finding shifted pupils, bringing him to the hospital, his blood samples destroyed (lost!) by USADA to not provide the proofs of the poisoning...
    And the Easy way he made Lamonts's team throw the towel the next time he met him on the ring... not even a SD12, a tko.

    He still had that win over prime Morrison on his cv (well it should have been but for a robbery) after bouncing him around the ring as well as to a lesser extent Joe Hipp. Considering those were well within the timeframe of the Wlad victory I'd hardly call it that bad of an upset. I still feel if there's a serious title on the line Sundek doesn't pull him out when he did. Wlad could well have weathered the storm in that fight.

    Dempsey went 1-2-2 against Meehan. All 4 round fights.

    Meehan is not a candidate though. Well above the Purrity and Torrecampo's of the world.

    Meehan finished with a record of 73-27-39. He fought a bunch of names from that time including Harry Greb, Jack Dillon, Billy Miske, Fred Fulton, Bill Brennan, and Gunboat Smith. He also won a 4 rounder over Sam Langford.

    So, clearly not an option here.
