A lot of people discuss him as a bum with no skill and who got lucky against Forrest, and that Tito and Oscar have exposed him. Not many people pick Mayorga when he's in talked about fantasy matches anymore. I think he was actually a pretty good fighter when he was at 147 and would be a handfull for a lot of welterweights, with his excellent chin and power. So is he underrated, or just fine where he is? I'm not talking about him now by the way.

I just find it hard to pick in favor of fighters with skills as crude as Mayorga's. He had some good things going for him, but he is just too base.

He certainly isn't the boxer type he is more of a brawler in every fight

He's still a tough old dog, and has picked up a couple of new tricks. People who would pick a majority of top welters over him sight unseen fail to appreciate that.

Very much, he's no Pretty Boy in the fundamentals department, but he would be hell for many top welters, Cotto, Cintron, Williams, Margarito. Oscar beat him because of his skill set, hands down, which shows that he isn't the most versatile fighter out there, but he has a hell of a chin and throws fairly accurate bombs so anyone with as suspect chin could get it

No. He is overrated in my book. Crude fighters like that are usually one night fame type of fighters. Mayorga just got lucky with forrest.

Mayorga is underrated but that is best for him. Mayorga can only do his thing to the utmost when he has the element of surprise. When Mayorga cracks someone within the opening rounds they have this look of disbelief in the power of his punches.

at his best mayorga was a good B+ fighter. he had descent timing, good stamina, threw nothing but bombs, came at weird angles and his unorthodoxness would cause opponests fighters. a lot of people say that anyone with descent skills would expose him, but forget how he ravaged a master boxer like forrest. he'd give a lot of welters a fight.

i dont really care if he was underrated or not.

im not a big fan of his, but mayorga is so darn entertaining.

    it's like watching demolition derby.

and he's p4p, in the top 5 (at least) trashtalkers in boxing history.

the things he says are hilarious.

yeah he's generally underrated with the same old 'no skill and talent' ****.
No way would he have got some of the wins he did (and robbed against Stinks) if he was that bad. He'll go back to 154 and knock some suckers about.

his putdowns and insults are nearly ali-esque.

mayorga's just has a cup more crassness and just pinch of vulgarity in his.

if he spoke in english, he'd sound a bit like triumph, the insult comic dog.

Mayorga has had the **** kicked out of him against guys like Tito and Oscar, and yet would beat another top level operator with world class skills in Forrest, every time. I think his wild style can be beaten with some solid skills rather easily, but on the other hand he will beat far more skilled fighters like Forrest who just cant figure him out...

He is underrated in my opinion. He didnt get lucky against Forrest, he beat him twice. He performed rather well against Trinidad but had a bad game plan, he defetead a shot Vargas but thats still a good accomplishment. Recently Forrest beat a shot Picirillo and he is back in the big picture but Ricardo beat a younger Picirillo very convincingly. He had a good performance against Spinks a guy who moved up in weight and had 2 very close fights with Karmazin and Taylor. His worst performance was against DLH, that really hurts his career getting dominated by an old DLH.
