Mayorga is decent but, at least right now, not top level. I laughed when he said he wanted to fight Mayweather.
I don't think so. Ricardo is a basic fighter who always puts on a great show. He may not be pretty, but he sure is fun to watch. Early on his hunger and will carried him further than his abilities alone would have, but he was never more than a b level fighter, if that.
I wouldn't call Mayorga a "bum" or even a clubfighter - but as a world class fighter, he's pretty much on the low end of the skill scale.
Mayorga definitly gets underrated now after the Oscar and Trinidad fights. When Mayorga was at 147 he was extremely strong, had great power, an amazing chin and underrated hand speed. You look at the speed of his punches now thenlook at his punches from the Forrest fights or his fights with Spinks and Lewis HUGE difference.
Very underrated. Whats underrated: Speed - fast puncher Workrate - works at a higher level than most fighters Combinations - blasts off combos pretty quick Unorthodox - hard to defend against Boxing ability- he gets his shots off pretty quick beating his opponent to the punch and his shots have good technique BUT it isn't his style to stick and move so he'll always look to engage. Accuracy - pretty good Resume - Forrest (twice), Spinks (arguably won), Lewis, Vargas, Piccirillo. Put Cotto in with bigger Trinidad and Delahoya and watch him lose to. Weaknesses Defense
No, he's perfectly rated. I would've liked to see him fight Floyd, I think Mayorga would've been able to get under his skin.
