What level is he at compared to fellow Scottish boxers like teak tough alky weegie Scott Harrison or straight edge softie Edinburgh boy Alex Arthur?
He's an ok fighter, Decent skills but lacks real power. He's battle tested that's for sure, and should beat indongo imo. Scott Harrison was a physical guy, but I'd say they're about even in terms of skills, but Harrison had more power behind his punches.
I remember Scott talking about a fight with Marquez. I laughed my ass off. Scott lives about 20 minutes from me but that would have been a Calzaghe Lacy schooling - and like Lacy, Scott would have went the distance and took his punishment
Oh yeah that's when he had the WBO strap and was still undefeated. Would have been a good fight Especially Early on, but JMM would have ended up whooping his ass. JMM was too sharp as a featherweight. Isn't he still locked up?
He battered some Spanish barmen and bouncers, got given a second chance, so did it gain lol. True weegie He was strong as an ox but limited. Marquez would have treated him like a punchbag
Burns underrated overall. Was actually quite good during his first title reign. Looked to be totally done a couple years ago, and has since randomly turned it around and looked pretty good of late.
Yeah I agree. I was pretty excited about the prospects of that fight happening in '06 I ain't going to lie. I know he was supposed to fight Joan Guzman at one point too, and Guzman was bad ass back then, Scott wouldn't have faired too good in that fight either.
Guzman. That was the other guy i couldnt remember his name, well played Dren 06 huh? Thats ten years ago man. Pretty sure Pacquiao Morales 1 happened around that time too Cant believe how time flies
Anthony Joshua had a great year crushing AmeriCan heavyweights. The US have become world renowned for their horizontal heavyweights.
I like Burns, but he can thank his career "resurgence" to his level of competition dropping dramatically and keen matchmaking in his favor. Matthew Macklin has done the exact same thing with his career the past few years. This is the third time they've done this rebuilding roller coaster ride with Burns, isn't it? I've lost track...
yo racist troll.. go do a count of how many yanks got Ko'd in 2016 compared to Brits, and while your at go count up how many world champs the UK has to the USA.. epic fail at trolling!
He was very good a few years ago when he was the number 1 at super featherweight/lightweight beating up top fighters like Roman Martinez and Michael Katsidis. Never been the same fighter though since having his jaw broken by Beltran. Still decent though. Great heart, chin and stamina.
I will be completely honest, I didn't think he'd beat Roman Martinez and he proved me wrong, I didn't think he beat Katsidis and he proved me wrong, I thought he'd struggle with Mitchell and he knocked him out and basically proved me wrong. Then he ran in to Beltran, I said he'd lose that but he somehow kept his title, so again proved me wrong. I was getting sick of him proving me wrong but after all that I finally got it right when Crawford came over and beat him handily and I thought Zlaticanin would beat him so I was right again. So I have a record of 2-4 going against Burns. I don't think any fighter has proved me wrong or just surprised me more than Ricky Burns over the last 6-7 years so I'm a little bit of a fan these days. I didn't think after Zlaticanin he would or could go on to win another world title, he looked a shadow of what he was so for him to move up and win another world title and become a three weight world champion is a great achievement and now has the chance to unify, amazing really when you look at where he was two and a half years ago after the Zlaticanin fight. Anyway, it took me a while, maybe I'm slow but I've learnt never to write off Ricky Burns.
Find it hard to say Burns has a glass jaw - he fought for 10 rounds with a broken jaw. Guy has the heart of a lion and one of the best chins out there. Might not have the most talent in the world, but he's still a 3 weight world champion despite that fact.
