I know this statement may sound ridiculous as Ricky Burns success is bring more scottish fans to the sport and will no doubt inspire more youngsters to take up the sport.

The problem with Ricky Burns success is warrens current scottish prospects are only fighting on Rickys cards in scotland and this is not regular enough for young pros just starting out who need to be fighting at least 6 times a year.

A couple of examples John Thain made his debut a year ago and has only fought 4 times. Callum Johnson made his debut in december on the Burns v Everson card and his second fight wasnt until this saturdays card. Stephen Simmons made his debut on saturdays card will he have to wait until the summer on rickys next card for his night fight?

All Warren prospects are fighting around 4-5 times a year at the moment. Not just the Scottish ones.

I am sure Johnson, Simmons etc will be on some non Burns bills at some point.

It seems all frank's fighters only fight a maximum of 4 times a year even if they are fighting terrible journeyman, they are not learning a thing.

I think the problem with Warren right now is he has too many prospects and not enough cards to put them on. With him not having many major stars he has to put all his top level prospects and mid-level fighters on the one card to make it worthwhile. Before the likes of Degale, Gavin, Brook and chisora would all be on different cards but now they are all on the same card taking up spaces where prospects would be.

It is an issue. I mentioned it last week. DeGale & Gavin should of had 15 fights by now.

A main example i think is michael walsh even if you dont like him he has won eight out of eight stopped all eight and only fought twice in 2010 and twice in 2009

the less he fights the better:yep

stopping Ian Bailey was a good win for him last time out.

i think in the next year when warren has a few more headliners and fairly decent ticket sellers were see more cards which prospects can fight on

It just annoys me that the only way i can see the likes of Johnson, thain and Simmons is by paying £50-£60 for a burns show which the last 2 have been poor. The only other option in Scotland is Tommy Gilmours dinner shows which are £100 a pop. It would be nice if Warren could put on a smaller scale show with prospect and mid-level fighters for £25-£30 these would be hard sell to the casual fan if there is no big name fighter on it.

Problem is Warren just doesnt put on cards unless theyre TV and he has so many fighters and few TV dates he has to juggle them about. He should put on small hall shows or at least loosen his grip and leave his prospects gain experiencef ighting on the small hall shows that go on every week run by other promoters

Sky need to provide a a show for Prospects.

How about once a month on Ringside its a 2 hour special with a live fight. So you have a regular ringside for an hour, in between you have an 8 rounder featuring a prospect and show highlights or knock outs from 2-3 others fights on the card. It could even be from a card on a wednesday night and they show one fill fight and the rest highlights etc.

you just do it at the York Hall or in some small venues like the hotels up North. The shows won't generate much money but they will get the fighters expirience.

Thing with sky is they are only interested in something if it will make them money. This kind of show would only attract the hardcore fans like us as there would be no big names to attract the casual fan.

they show things like Netball, Badminton etc. Sky pay around 70k for a British title fight. With no title fight on the card and just prospects theres no reason why they couldn't have a much small license fee.

In answer to the question posed , no. And I do think it does sound a bit riddiculous.

I don get your point but it has nothing to do with Ricky Burns.

The question should be more like, 'is Frank Warren damaging the future of British boxing?

    :deal

Most times when prospects fight Sky don't even show their fights. They only show the 'elite' prospects. So why do they all have to be on televised cards?

For example, Warren can put on a card in Scotland every month, or every couple of months, with his Scottish prospects on. Allow them to develop a local fanbase as well - especially if you price tickets accordingly (like say £10, £15).

It's actually better for prospects to develop off-tv so they don't feel as much pressure early on.

The only people who do this atm is VIP. The likes of Karl Place and Tyrone Nurse keep busy on smaller cards.

This has annoyed me for a long time. With the number of fighters under contract to Warren there is no reason why he couldn't have a monthly show in the Kelvin Hall. He could do the same in London and Manchester or Liverpool to give local prospects the chance to get rounds under their belts.

I think you'd easily get five hundred people turn up to watch six to eight six-rounders for £20-£30 one Sunday a month.
