I think they are contracted to five fights a year minimum. John thain made his pro debut down in liverpool almost a year ago so maybe he will be on another show down south shortly.

    Exactly.

Warren has a cluster of Prospects in Scotland, Manchester, Liverpool & London. No reason why he cannot do 3 cards in Venues there. Warren doesn't even have to get invovled let his son or Dean Powell arrange it.

I understand what you are saying but 500 people at £30 is only £15000 to put on even a 4 fight show thats just not enough to pay for fighters and expenses etc

You do it based on ticket sales from each fighter. If for example Callum Johnson sells 350 tickets he gets 50% of each ticket sales he gets £3,750. Have it in his contract that he does 4 of these cards a year and 4 big shows there he gets guarenteed purse of for example £7,500. He will be making more than £30k after fee's before tax.

Cleverly won the British title on a Mike Hennessey card so I wouldn't rule that out for Warren's other fighters.

500 was a conservative estimate to be honest.

Looking at this from a purely Glasgow based position as people on this thread have already pointed out Tommy Gilmours black tie shows don't really do much to push boxing into the mainstream in Scotland because at £100-£200 a seat it's only dedicated hardcore fans and "gangsters" living out a mob movie fantasy that regularly attend them. Their attendance figures aren't usually helped by the fact that 24 hours before they start the cards normally read:

    Kenny Anderson v tba
    tba v tba
    tba v tba
    tba v tba

When you see how quickly and how well tickets for the smaller promoters shows in Scotstoun and Bellahouston sell it's very obvious there is a large audience in the city who would attend regular reasonably priced shows in a central location.

And with the Kelvin Hall in mind you could probably get it for next to nothing as the council are desperate to promote any type of sport at the moment as part of the Commonwealth games legacy, the chance to showcase the local boxing gyms/clubs is something they'd be all over.

Granted shows like this wouldn't make someone like Warren any real money but surely he owes his boxers, the fans and the sport a little something back.

Ricky Burns has got boxing back to the edges of mainstream coverage in Scotland after it has been in the wilderness for a long time but it's up to people like Frank Warren to start pushing through the next generation of guys into the public conscience as even people like John Simpson and Paul Appleby are virtually unknown to the casual fan who will turn up for world title fights and nothing else.

i think any sky or terrestrial channel should bring back PROBOX

that show was excellent and it gave young prospects exposure

I agree with you on this point i personally would like to see boxers more active and have to earn their places on televised shows and try and gain a local following before a national one.

Doing this does a few things firstly it gets the boxers out more often which most are always complaining about. They might not be as well paid for the individual fights but they will probably overall take home more whilst investing in their own future and development whilst promoting the sport of boxing throughout the country.

The second point is the promotion of boxing as a brand if all people see are Harrison Haye and there is no local boxing in the local area for 6months to a year then it doesnt help promote the sport. More cards = more interest especially in London Manchester Liverpool Glasgow where there are good crops of boxers and a good sized population thats wants to see them

Aqualung i agree with the points you make its the short sightedness of promoters and boxers in general which is letting the sport down. In the long term if there is more local involvement and connection with a local fanbase it can only be good for a boxing and the fighter involved. Boxing needs to be in the publics consciousness much more than it is and one way is starting from the bottom.

    or even BBC.

I remember them showing Haye's fights whilst the full time classifieds were coming along the screen on a ticker!

the op needs to take a reality check and listen to the **** there talkin, Ricky is not single handidly damaging boxing,in some instinces hes pushing tis profile .If he didnt win the world title i gurentee the fighters would not have had been fighting reguarly .The real people who are runing scottish boxing are Morrison and Gilmour who charge £85 /£100 a ticket for effectivly fights that would make a Warren undercard

You also have to remeber that while burns/appleby/thain/simmons are Warren fighters the likes of Mcmillan(who didnt figth)/Johnathon slowey also make the undercard are not this is a good chance for them to show there skills to the folk who dont want to pay £85 upward a ticket ...

Im not saying its Rickys fault directly. Just that indirectly, now that Warren has a world champ in scotland he is saving his scottish fighters fighting just on Burns cards. Whereas in the past they would have fought on different warren cards around the country more frequently.
