If there are 25 ATG HWs, then maybe. Depends how many All Time Greats you personally feel there are through boxings history.
It depends on where you personally draw the cutoff for ATG. Is that reserved for Top 10? Top 15? Top 20? Depending on who you ask, that will likely determine one's answer.
No, he wasn't even the best of his era. And when Golota, who was beating him twice, got waxed in one round by Lewis he ran scared and dumped his belt. All time greats don't do that crap. If he had fought Lennox and lost he would more likely qualify as an ATG. But ducking don't get you there.
No, great wins over Holyfield and a decent win against Herbie Hide but thats it. He did look like an absolute monster in his prime years though
I'm pretty sure he shouldn't have lost twice to Golota. Because rules have to exist or you might as well be doing the MMA from Django Unchained.
Wow! Definitely correct! And I, personally, really do not have an answer as to where the cutoff is for defining an all time great! Do you know if any sort of consensus has ever been formed as an answer to that question? Would being inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame as a BOXER settle the matter, or is there too much politics involved in such decisions?
Yes, but... It depends on the criteria, and the view of the thing. Riddick Bowe also (like Lennox Lewis) beat anyone he boxed with, except for one NC fight. Although in a completely different scenario than Lennox Lewis. He was lucky (I don't know a better term) for Golota to be disqualified twice correctly, otherwise Riddick Bowe would not have had such a score. Riddick Bowe vs Andrew Golota is probably the most bizarre rivalry in boxing history.
In my experience, posters around here tend to make a distinction between HOF and ATG, with ATG's representing a higher tier, which I understand. People around here also tend to have 'higher standards' for what constitutes a HOF'er when compared to the actual IBHOF itself. I doubt a true consensus would ever be reached with this type of thing, but for my 2 cents, if a boxer is in the discussion for Top 15-20 in any of the traditional 8 weight classes, I think that qualifies, especially in the marquee heavyweight division. So for me, Riddick Bowe fits the bill. Definitely an ATG in my view. But clearly this thread proves many disagree with my take.
Nope. He didn't do enough. His best fights were with Holyfield, a blown up CW. He ducked Lewis and never really fought anyone else of note except Golota, who gave him brain damage.
Holyfield is an ATG at heavyweight who could scrap with the best of them. Whether he blew up from cruiserweight or not doesn’t matter.
