Arum is the one solely responsible for Rigo not being more popular. That's the reason why Floyd left Top Rank. He didn't get the fights that he wants. Arum came out and criticized his own fighter over nothing. I smell **** in here.
poorly managed career. great style to win fights but too much high risk for little reward. those weight categories dont have enough money involved to destroy a promising career that is MANAGED correctly.
100% i was a huge fan but he has wasted the chance to become brilliant following the Donaire win, 5 meager fights in 3.5 years when he had the momentum, he didn't cease it the opportunity His trepidation when in complete control of fights made me stop watching Whilst a truly gifted fighter if you do not step it up when required then why will people tune in to watch?
Yeh i cant argue with this statement, Arum screwed him over after Rigo effectively finished Top Ranks new Pacquaio and PPV star Did he fight again for Top Rank after the Donaire V?
Rigo is not to blame for the most part, he could have learnt English though and should have taken the Lomachenko fight. They are the only two criticisms I have. I'm a Rigo fan though so am a bit biased.
Rigo definitely has the fundamental skills in the ring to win and stay undefeated. It's really up to him to either be great, or the best. I wouldn't say wasted though.
HUGE RIGO FAN but voted yes. sadly ever since donaire he has made some very winnable fights VERY BORING. fights like the agbeko fight where we saw agbeko i believe in round 7 so lost and helpless in their throw a total of 2 PUNCHES in a round... rigo answered by through SWEET **** ALLL.. the guy is poison to other fighters he has them so scared to throw because of his lethal counters (seriously best straight left in the game) and once he does that el chacal just continues to play the waiting game... i actually think the donaire fight was incredibly entertaining to watch because donaire never really gave up and rigo actually pressed the action when donaires eye got really bad and he backed up
I don't know. I just know that when your promoter doesn't like you, you won't get the promotion that you need. Arum has always put special fighters on the backburner. That's why I never liked him ever.
I can't call it blame. There's some responsibility on how he could've handled his career better, but as I posted in the deleted thread about Cubans sabotaging themselves: we're expecting a guy who has been born and raised communist, with the mindset that victory is the only thing that matters, to start knowing how to handle a capitalist boxing career where style points, personas, and how one markets themselves outside of the ring makes a huge difference in the level of support, fans, and ratings you generate. How you win matters as much or more than the ultimate outcome. The loser can be more valuable than the winner in the pros. That's not a concept he's ever had to wrap his mind around. Thus, I cut him a good amount of slack. Yes, he could've done more. But it's tough to expect someone with that background to know exactly what fans here want and respond to, and how important it is to have a big fan base in the first place.
It took me a little time to have more empathy for the situation- I used to be much more of a **** about it until I stepped back and wondered if there was something systematic about why these Cuban talents can be routinely frustrating to watch and follow (just look at the weight issues so common to Cuban heavyweights for another example of this). Looking at it that way, it makes perfect sense. I realize now I was short-sighted in expecting them all to know the ins and outs of a pro boxing career when the pro climate and nuances are a complete 180 to what they've fought with most of their lives. Hopefully the next generation of Cuban stars can learn from their experiences so the shock isn't quite so dramatic. :good
I blame the cowards who don't want to fight him because he's too talented. He guarantees big money because boxing fans know he's the best in his division. The excuse that he doesn't bring money to the table is complete BS.
arguably greatest ever amateur. Atg victory over a prime and essentially unbeaten Donaire. Far too dominant for his own good. But no the fault is not his. The fault is the alphabet trinkets that exist in boxing. Without those it is impossible to call yourself a champion of you don't man up and take on Rigo. Because of that he can be avoided. I blame the system.
