Is RJJ higher P4P then Hagler?

I rate Marciano very highly, too. He was a beast for his era.

 

If you overlook the fact Roy was a big time Steroid abuser, then yes I would rate him over Hagler.

 

That was definitely an impressive 1-shot body KO, but I believe Jones pulled some type of weight-in BS. I don’t recall what exactly, but something like having the weigh-in much closer to the fight to keep Hill from getting a size advantage.

 

I remember the sound of that punch while watching the fight live on HBO. Like so much of the boxing world at the time, I was a huge Jones fan but I’ve cooled on him over the years. IMHO, he was the precursor to “Money” Mayweather. Both Roy and Floyd had great careers but fall short of giants like Leonard and Duran.

 

Hagler beating Alan Minter in the UK in front of a horrible racist crowd beats every win RJJ has aside from Hopkins & Toney. The Hearns' knockout puts him above RJJ for me. It's not an open and shut argument, but I am surprised to see the poll so weighted in favour of Jones. For me, it's about quality vs quantity. Jones' title defenses were mostly against C-grade opposition, in front of a comfortable home crowd, with everything in his favour. Not to mention Hagler had one of the greatest chins of all time. I think he'd have beaten Jones at 160.

Roy's HW reign is smoke and mirrors. If he beat V Klitschko or Lennox, he would be ahead of Hagler. However, Ruiz was not a good fighter; he was a WBA darling and nearly got killed by David Tua in a fight that lasted so short it could be turned into a TikTok. He was a paper champion. My vote goes to Hagler here.
