my routine is 4x2 minute rounds on heavy bag 4x2 mins shawdow boxing 20 mins skipping light weights high reps and focus pads and sparring on every 3 days i do this 7 times a week should i try include running or is this enough and can my workout be improved? thanks
Conditioning is necessary. It doesn't have to be running, but you need to do something. The bag and sparring isn't enough. Most people figure this out after a few fights.
in my opinion road work is a must. There“s nothing that beats it if you want to build stamina. All the best The Predator
I'd agree with this, but if you do roadwork, do 'interval' sprints not just mile after mile at the same pace which is totally unlike any conditioning required in a fight
Yeah interval sprints are great for building a mix of aerobic and anaerobic fitness. Also does anyone know if doing 1 minute speed sessions on the bag with very little rest periods actually has any benefit?
Early morning Roadwork leaves me with a euphoric feeling that I don't get anywhere else. For that reason alone it is indispensable. Unfortunately in the Canadian Winter it can be difficult to get out of bed to go running at negative temperatures while it's still dark out.... It builds character as much as anything.
Hatton used to use alternative methods, but he's running now and was astonishingly fresh at the end of 10 busy rounds against Paulie.
I've been training for a long time and I can tell you without any hesitation that long slow runs do nothing for a fighters conditioning. I've run as much as 40 miles a week at times and my fatigue levels in sparring were not improved one bit. Running 1/2 mile sprints are the way to go. On another note, running will strip weight off of you like no other exercise will.
****, good point.. We got a couple classic posters coming to kick knowledge here, lol.. Russel, Salsanfan.
I don't mind that, as long as they're from Classic they'll probably support me in my "anti-weights" campaigns :hey
