If you put Duran in the top ten... This guy is your #2 Welterweight Ever. And Top 15-20, at worst. This content is protected So what does Pepe, Stonehands, Clinton, ETM, duranimal, et al. think? Pucker Up.
Computer Results,,,,,,,, WBA Light-Welterweight Championship Antonio Cervantes defeats Roberto Duran in January 1974 by a solid 15-Round Decision 145-142 (8-5-2 in Rounds). Antonio Cervantes {age 28}...66-9-3 (28 KO's) vs. Roberto Duran (Age 22 1/2)....39-1-0 (33 KO's)
:rasta Depending on the day, Duran is my favorite fighter ever. I can dig up the numerous, slobbering man-loveish posts. The SRL hate though... Is a No-Go.
It was nice to see Mike getting a standing ovation last night.Watched the fights this afternoon and I thought of your thread when I saw it.
I have Leonard as my #3 Welterweight of Alltime very close behind Gavilan. The only thing that holds him down in the alltime P4P rankings is his overall lack of fights. The quality is there and the talent was there. His eye injury derailed him at his peak. Top 15-20 P4P? Ive never really layed out a list but I wouldnt argue with him being in the top 20. Sugar Ray Leonard was an elite fighter no question.
I've never seen any hate on here for SRL:bart With regard to the squealing pigs on here that weep & howl with indignation when exposed to the truth about SRL's machinations, & manipulations of the sport, they call it HATE!! In truth they no ****-all about SRL except you-tube highlights. We all know SRL was a media creation & for very good reason, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ a plenty! Those of us around during the 80's are all of of one voice in condeming SRL for the damage he wrought on boxing that reverberates up to this very day in the shape of Floyd mayweather Jr. It all depends on yer own standards you wish to employ in life & all the SRL weepers & wailers no doubt hate being exposed to themselves as having idolised a 1st class ****ing SNAKE & SRL is the 1st to admit that he's a 1st class ****ing SNAKE:yep It's got **** all to do with his undoubted ability & all to do with his now totally exposed rotten treacherous manipulting persona & it's about time the cry babies on here got used to the fact that history can't be undone or wiped out. SRL never ever gave anyone the opportunities of re-match back in the day when re-matches were the order of the day & by overwhelming public demand i may say. He refused to re-match Benitez unless it was at the 147 limit in 82 when Wilfredo held the 154 strap, He refused to re-match Hearns, he shockingly bugged out of the Hagler showdown, thats just one example of the route to success that SRL employed to avoid any more damage to the SRL $$$$$$ Brand. It ai'nt hate, IT'S THE ****ING TRUTHdeal:deal
Everybody gets overrated by some but in general his rating is correct, he is a top 10 p4p fighter & a top 2 or 3 at worst LW.
You`ve probably never came across red rooster, guy has some serious ****ed up issues with Leonard, he`s so bad its hard to tell if he`s trolling.
Roberto Duran 'Es Numero Uno' Wasn't it great to watch this 5' 7" Panamanian, a 29 year-old over-blown Lightweight beat up the supposed 'Great' Ray Leonard. This content is protected
I'll be honest, i've always found the ROOSTER spot on most of the time with regard to SRL when alluding to NORRIS & NUNN which is RED's usual scathing mode of delivery. Rooster certainly knows how to press the right buttons for inflammed reactions I'm not one to critisise SRL skill, but sometimes the fog of war & public image perception have clouded some real issue's with regard to his true status. But he'll always get my respect in consideration that he fought Benitez, Green, Duran x 2, Bonds, Kaluli, Hearns in 21 months or the last 5 in 15 months. Incredible! As we all know SRL is a global icon, obviously the handle "Sugar" was a massive PR coup juxtaposed with the Olympic Gold medal. Back then any Gold Medal olympian was hailed as a soldier of freedom fighting against the Soviet Bogeyman, this had plenty to do with it IMHO, good over evil ect ect. Today it dos'nt carry the same public dynamics. But with regard to SRL, when you start to peel the layers off & get to the core then what you see is fairly & squarely up for debate. I just can't go with SRL being the 2nd best WW, his carear is just to short at the weight & filled with close calls & a no nonsence defeat at the hands of an old lightweight & he wanted nothing to do with Benitez or Hearns again. If he'd handled Curry & Starling then i'd be more inclined too go more easy on his position.
Ray Leonard after 'losing' to Roberto Duran. Get me Davey Boy Green again, then I'd like to go to Panama to see the Roberto Duran Monument. Roberto Duran Monument in Panama. This content is protected
:deal Nice, thanks for the response(s). Glad To draw you out from wherever you've been hiding lately. I'd feel free to plug Gavilan in that coveted #2 if not SRL, but that's just me.
