Is Roberto Duran the greatest boxer since Sugar Ray Robinson?

I think its got to be what people consider themselves as Lewis was different in the sense that similarly to Fitz he moved away at a young age but ultimately he based himself in the UK for much of his career proudly sported the Union Jack at many of his fights.

 

Yeah I'd have Chavez, Hagler, Monzon and Pacman all in the same bracket.

Been a while since I've watched my favourite fighter of all time, just been watching a bit now, need to get my head down for a hour though but let me just say this. When you're going to talk about skills you need to differentiate between Roberto Duran and the vast majority of fighters that have lived.

My mate Bing, who is a member of this forum but hardly posts, he's into boxing both currently and historically just as much as me and years ago he purchased Durans career set and ended up sitting there laughing relentlessly simply at how good Duran was. Just sat there laughing because he kind of found it absurd that a fighter should be so skilled.

Lennox Lewis really, really ****ed up Ruddock that night.

Bowe was badly mismanaged as well, which didn't help. If he wasn't so sure after their meeting in the Olympics, Rock Newman definitely convinced him it was a good idea to avoid Lennox.

Teeto, I feel the same about Duran, but the only time I actually laughed at loud at a fighter was Chang. Absurdly skilled (kinda' like a mini-Duran, in his own way of course)

When pissed last Christmas, I did laugh at B-Hop outhustling Pascal down the stretch. So f'n old school I couldn't believe, ended up spewing up during the Championship rounds

What a waste of talent.

I love the Lennox of the Ruddock fight. Trimmer, more athletic, faster and as explosive as I've ever seen him. Really is a sight to see. I prefer him (aesthetically) to the Lewis of later years, actually, though I concede that if Lewis had of gone on like that he'd have more than 2 KO losses to his name in all likelyhood. Still great to see a Heavyweight is such great shape and of such terrific speed and ability though.
