Frank Bruno was prime example of that type of thing.

Really impressive - physically - but known for **** stamnia at world class level - and it cost him against Witherspoon, etc.

Even when he won the WBC World title - on that big night in Wembley - in the best conditon of his career against a lazy and disintrested Oliver McCall he was absolutely exhausted come the final round and had to hang on for dear life.

Boxing is not about being pumped muscles like your a bodybuilder or looking like a male stripper.

Like Floyd Mayweather Jnr said before "Beautiful Bodies dont win you fights"

 

A beautiful body night well have been enough to beat Victor Ortiz.

From a technical/skill standpoint, I'd have to say they all do. I was just gassed off the fluid, infectious ferocity of Duran. I do admit I have a real impatience with grainy b&w films especially with missing frames and what not. It isn't fair, but I'm definitely guilty of romanticizing the early color televsion era of boxing. Fighters still fought the best and the skills/fights are presented in a convenient format.

My top 20 tends to shuffle with alarming frequency, so much so that I'm hesistant to even place them in order and then look like a hypocrite later on.

The fighters I've been most 'Awed' by: Roberto Duran, Salvador Sanchez, Alexis Arguello, Thomas Hearns, Mike Tyson. I feel as though they are H2H Monsters in an all-time sense at their best.

 

Nice post. I have pretty much the same top 20 (Burley isn't in mine, just outside) although with slightly different placings, none of them really arguable without ridiculous and unfair nitpicking.

All of the guys you mentioned have had a similar effect on me. Jung Koo Chang is another, Roy Jones & Kid Gavilan as well. In fact, there have been many that have compelled me in some way or another, and as for grainy footage I don't mind myself, I understand the criticisms but I'm happy to persevere in most cases.

Tony Canzoneri Vs Kid Chocolate is one of the best bouts I've ever seen on film.

 

This guy blew me away as well, admittedly. For shits n giggles more than pure skill, but Pulverizing Power. Turned many Tyson heads into Julian Jackson fanboys.

To say Jackson would have a "puncher's chance" against any fighter in history at weight would be no small understatement.

That Canzoneri/Chocolate bout is no joke either ! Out of the Holy Trinity, Canz has probably got to be my personal favorite.

 

Watching a Jackson KO highlight reel is one of the true pleasures of this great sport of ours. Still amazes me the torque he seemed to generate, truly destructive, no wild and wide hooks, all shortened as much as possible, and all completely destructive.
