It's a bit of a misnomer to say Duran jumped two divisions to beat Leonard. Duran's last lightweight fight was about 2 and a half years before beating Leonard.

It's still one of the greatest wins ever though.

The OP is trolling you guys, he always trolls, but he's usually better than this, since this Duran debate comes like once a month like a woman's period.

If it is trolling, can you just explain how someone who doesn't beat a number one in any of the divisions above lightweight or dominates any division gets hailed with greatness.then someone brings up pac and discredits his achievement yet he has been the number 1 fighter in all 8 of the divisions he's fought in and beat plenty of hall of fame fighter on the way,I'm not I'm just struggling on what logic you go by

Iran Barkley was WBC World middleweight titleholder when Duran beat him back in 1989.

Duran didn't "jump" weight classes, he was simply fat, undisciplined, and couldn't make weight

    Sometimes. Wasn't fat against Barkley.

Good to read that you can see reason and logic.

How about beating Davey Moore, who was WBA World super welterweight titleholder?

That's two that meet your criterion.

Surely going 15 competitive rounds with Marvin Hagler, holder at 3 MW belts at the time, counts as SOMETHING?

I think everyone can agree the below 140 Duran was and ATG, and that over 147 he was competitive but not terrific. Yes, he had discipline issues and that's why he gained so much weight, but he fought, and defeated many highly ranked guys above the 160 pound weight, which is incredible since he started out as a 120 pounder.

I'm a boxing affectionado since at age 7 my dad gave me a double VHS set called "The Very Best of Roberto Duran"

And the guy hadn't even retired yet! That was in 1990.

Barkley had just knocked Hearns out when Duran fought him for the middleweight title.
