Much like Pac was the fighter if the decade but at the end of the day it really means nothing. Ali was superior to Duran and pbf is superior to Pac.:deal

and then this movie coming out in a few months will be another thing to build a legacy without great wins!!!!!! fighter of the decade? Wasn't Sugar Ray fighter of 1980s and only fought half the decade when guys like Hearns and Hagler fought the whole time???!! who cares. Ali beat greats in the 1970s and Duran did not.. name one great he beat and dont give me Buchanan and Dejesus. I am not the only one to think this stuff since I heard other guys mention how Duran is overrated.

Duran gets a lot of credit because people loved his machismo. That's part of Durans legend a big part I might add. His fans tend to overplay his accomplishments and downplay or excuse his loses. I think Erik Morales will get some of that same treatment years down the road.

No. The Most Overrated award goes to Julio Cesar Chavez Sr... and throw in Jr in there for kicks.

Ali superior to Duran surely you jest. Duran was a much more complete fighter than Ali, the only thing Ali had over Duran was his physical gifts like his speed and his reflexes anything else is Duran all the way, better defense, much better inside fighter, better offense, mixed offense and defence much better, better bodypuncher, better puncher, could box or brawl, chin was about equal, pound for pound was a harder puncher than Ali. Both great fighters but overall Duran's game had more dimensions than Ali's.

Ali is a top 3 atg and a walking memorial without peer.:deal Duran was great in his own right but not in Ali s class. Duran was bothered by speed defense and movement. He was outboxed by both srl and Benitez and ktfo by hearns. Ali is the better fighter and only a delusional fool would think otherwise.

I will tell you the same. Go study boxing, but study it in a defensive sense, and complete sense. Look at foot positioning. Look at Floyd or Pernell and how they move back when I guy moves forward. Moves to the right and then left and moves thier head, all in one movement. Yes Duran looked awesome at times, but his foot liabilities hurt him. That is knowing boxing. We are not talking about fanboy stuff here. Anyone can admire anyone. Who are the greatest boxers who can beat every style, hence a great fighter? A guy who fights and beats all levels and who can fight different styles and move his feet as well as his hands. If he can only fight a certain level and look great, and then moves up in competition and loses, that is not top fighter ever. Not in my view or in the view of boxing objectivity.

No i dont have Duran in my top three fool but i sure as hell dont have Ali in there either. I guess you never heard of Harry Greb? Or Sam Langford? Or Ezzard Charles? Just to name three that would rank ahead of Ali. If you spent more time studying the history of the sport instead of obsessing over Mayweather and Pac but specially Mayweather maybe you could be a good poster as it is your knowledge on the history of the sport is severely lacking maybe cause it just doesnt interest you and you're more into the modern game who knows.

Though in your favor i should say you are one of the better *****s and you actually show interest in other topics other than Mayweather but you could be better, try watching some old fights and study some old fighters once in a while, you'll learn from it and you will form your own opinions instead of just going but what some other posters many of them are just trolling say. Watch some George Benton he was a great defensive fighter who used some of the moves Mayweather uses now he was also Pernell Whitaker's trainer, i think hes the kind of fighter you would enjoy.

Stop with fanboysm **** if you really knew Whitaker you knew that his footwork was flawed not saying it wasnt good but it was flawed, he had the bad habit of crossing his feet when moving and he also had the bad habit of sometimes coming forward and stomp with his lead foot ala Marlon Starling when he did that he could be timed and caught off balance, some of the knockdowns he suffered throughout his career happened cause of it. You talk about Duran like you're some expert(far from it) and you dont even know basic stuff about your fav fighter. Now this(knowing your fav fighter better than you do) is knowing boxing not the **** you do where you just parrot **** that others say with little to no substance behind it.

    You just been schooled.

    Class is over.

    You dismissed.

BBall is a big fan of Benton and he falls squarely in the ***** camp. Of course, so am I, and I tend to land there more often than not.

As for the question, depends on where you rate Duran. I think he lands in the Top 15 at the absolute lowest, but given that he's up against guys like Charles, Moore, Pep, Benny Leonard, et al, I don't think people should be up in arms if he falls outside the Top 5.

Was the foot positioning of Pernell superior to Duran? Starling was a joke. Blocking punches looked ago vs. Breland and Honeyghan, but wouldn't work against a good moving fighter. Pernell had great head movement and foot positioning, which kept his range perfectly and at the same time moved his head and countered. Something Duran could not do. Duran lacked foot positioning and actually kept his feet too wide apart and couldnt turn when his opponent did, and these things which he was limited at were never exposed by his oppositiong at lightweight, which was average to at times above average. Actually his fight against Hearns was not as bad as his fights vs. Leonard and Benitez, where they outmanuevered him. Hearns was too quick, but Hearns did not outmanuever Duran,he just outsped and outpunched. The Hearns fight didn't expose him, Tommy was just too fast and sharp.
