All because a fighter has trouble with a certain style does not mean he will always lose to every fighter with that exact style .

Fighters do overcome adversity in boxing and Duran has shown he can rise to the occasion when pushed .

Duran was not past his prime against SRL, you guys need to stop repeating that lie. Yes, he was expected to lose to SRL and that's because SRL was the better fighter and he proved that twice after Montreal. Not only that, SRL proved it by beating way better fighters. And no, because SRL choose to fight Durans fight in Montreal does not mean that Duran can beat any slick fighter in history. There seems to be an excuses attached to everyone of Duran's loses. "oh he wasn't taking the fight seriously" or "oh he was unprepared" Being a professional is part of being a great fighter, I guess you guys forgot that. Styles make fight and the man struggled with slick boxers. Leonard had easy time with him twice after Montreal. Slick fighters frustrated him and even the commentators noted that in the Benitez fight. The man can't deal with slickness.....that's why he quit against Leonard.
I know you guys are not gonna like this but I believe a prime 135 pound Sugar Shane Mosley would have beat Duran on his own game.
Winky Wright I have no doubt would have did a Trinidad on Duran.

He would have clearly lost to Mayweather I tell you that. If the man had that much trouble connecting on Leonard and Benitez. Two inferior defensive fighters..... there is no way he's connecting on the greatest defensive fighter of all time. Please don't call me a Mayweather nuthugger, that's what statistics says. Mayweather has the highest connect percentage rate of all time. I didn't make up the stats.

STFU moron I know what it means. Men lie, numbers don't. Mayweather hits his opponents more than they hit him, that's what numbers say you dumbasss.

Duran didn't pressure SRL like he did in the first fight. He was noticeably way slower in the rematch and not physically as strong either, he looked bloated. In the first fight, Leonard tried to outbox and be slick against Duran after almost getting ko'd going toe to toe with Duran, but no matter what he did, Duran was on top of him. Hell, there were times Duran was OUTBOXING the master boxer! Duran wasn't just using smart pressure, he was schooling SRL. If he did that to SRL, of course Montreal Duran would have no problem doing that to Mayweather, Benitez, Hearns, Mosley, or Winky that night. SRL was the cream of the crop man. Montreal Duran beats any welterweight in history. Period.

Well-said. The only fighter who beat Leonard in his prime, Roberto Duran. The only fighter who landed lead left hooks on Leonard in his prime, and the only fighter who ever took away Leonard's awesome left jab--after round 4 in Montreal, Leonard stopped throwing his left jab, because in rounds 1-4, Duran was slipping that jab and landing counter-rights. Duran was the Einstein of in-fighting, look real close at his fight with Carlos Palomino, it's a textbook on how to go toe-to-toe yet not get hit. The Barkley fight blew everyone's mind, I remember that one well. Duran was both a brawler and a brilliant boxer, and an incredible defensive fighter, to boot. I think that Sugar Ray Robinson was the greatest fighter ever and perhaps the greatest we will ever see, however, IMHO. Robinson beat LaMotta five out of six, was ahead against Joey Maxim until the heat did SRR in (fighting for light heavyweight belt), and Robinson's skills were legendary, for good reason. Ali learned how to throw in cadence, backing up and landing and piling up points, from Sugar Ray Robinson.

    Turned pro in 1968

    Retired in 2001

    33 year pro career

Or here's another fact to blow your mind and put this into perspective - Mike Tyson was TWO years OLD when Duran turned professional (1968) and the same Mike Tyson was a SHOT fighter when Duran retired in 2001. That is how much longevity and competitiveness Duran had in his career.

Most guys' bodies give up after 10-15 years of repeated training camps and high intensity work outs.

    EASILY Top 10 ATG.
