As the latest crazy dude trying to compile a biography of Marciano (www.redemptionthelifeanddeathofrocky.weebly.com) I am struck by the division of opinion surrounding the fighter, so as I am trying to make the biography as impartial as possible I ask you guys for as an impartial discussion as possible on whether you feel that Marciano as a fighter is relevant today ? (if this post does nothing else it may get people talking)

The films will always be popular.
    Sorry,couldn't resist.:good
I think amongst hardcore fans he will always be relevant because he was the only HW Champ (when it meant something in a global sense and had a real impact on society in the developed world) to truly go out on top and undefeated.
    Good luck with the Bio.

    Na, he's been dead years.

Not ranked with any of the organisations I don't think.

while its important to keep his place in history alive and his life story in general by making new programs to talk about him (and this goes for any person with historical significance not just sports legends) but for the most part people in 2012 that have have iphones, laptops, facebook pages at 17 years old to to a few guys who are in their 40's who only have a little interest because their fathers liked Marciano...there is simply too much other stuff going on for them to care or relate.... sad but true

If you love and respect the sport. If you're a historian of boxing, that pays due respect to the All Time Greats... Then absolutely Rocky Marciano is still relevant.

Rocky was a great fighter and its a shame nobody talks about him

he had all the disadvantages in the world outside of power and heart and he beat some great fighters just by not giving up on himself

we look to legendary athletes and some ppl point out the obvious but im shocked his story doesnt get told more

now a days ppl say his 49-0 is padded and that he was bum with no defense which is far from the truth

i was saying like outside of boxing forums....other greats in other sports who over came obstacles from the past get very immortalized, i feel that very few ppl today outside of boxing fans know much about Marciano though everybody could benefit from hearing his story

Not sure what the division of opinion your refering to. Any time i hear people talking of Rocky they talk in respectiful tones of a great champion. He certainly has this auora surrounding him of being a great a revered champ even to those who dont really know much about him.

The guys an ATG. Simple as that.

"There they go...everytime I start talking about boxing a white man got to pull Rocky Marciano out their ass. That's what they want, that's they one, Rocky Marciano, Rocky Marciano. Let me tell you something once and for all, Rocky Marciano was good but compared to Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano ain't ****."
