The Rock is, apparently, one of the great polarising forces in the boxing universe. Not quite at Dempsey's ineffable strata yet, but pretty good.

He just wasn't the best because there is no way he could beat that many great fighters. You can pick him over one if the right set of circumstances allow but not all. That is just silly. The ones that he could win might leave nothing for the next fight. No fighter beats all. Because they are limited to so many great fights.

Rocky is limited to less Head to Head wins because he in particular was limited in so many ways that a great showdown could finish him as a fighter even if he won. As a one fight deal I give him an excelent chance against the very best but for only one fight with any real confidence.

In life I think he took it as far as it goes, there was not much left. And that is not the case with a lot of all timers. ALI, Louis, Dempsey, Holmes the Klit brothers were much better athletes who were always going to be great for longer. You could pick all of those with a lot more confidence over a more varied bunch of great fighters than you could with Rocky.

I know most won't agree but I think Rocky could take Liston or Foreman but winning either fight would finish him as a fighter. He was just limited to so many "life and death" fights. Three tops. I think the Walcott and Charles fights were life and death. another fight like that and even if he won it would be the last win at that level. He'd drop a level just like Frazier did.

So no, marciano, (like Frazier did) may very well be capable on his very best night to achieve the unbelievable ...but it would break him. For that reason there are a lot better head to head champions.

Please elaborate, which are the anti -Marciano threads currently on the front page?

You've made a statement, I require proof of that statement.

How in the holy name of Christ can a thread asking if Marciano is the GREATEST OF ALL TIME HEAD TO HEAD be anti-Marciano? To even be considered for such an estimation is a compliment on the highest order!

And even if I do not think Marciano is worthy of this accolade, I would not pick against him at 190 or below... against pretty much any fighter in history...

    Yet, I am an anti-Marciano.

    1. This thread

    2. LaStarza vs modern heavies

    3. Marciano vs Douglas

    4. If Marciano was black

I think these threads were all drawn up for the purpose of attacking Rocky Marciano, if we are honest about it.

I left out the Marciano or Frazier thread, because I am not sure about that one.

My point is that the only people who are obsessed with Rocky Marciano, are his detractors.

Have the originators of these threads made derogatory remarks about Marciano? Have either Seamus, or myself disparaged him here?
Seamus asked," Is Marciano The Greatest p4p Fighter Ever"?

    That's an anti-Marciano thread?:huh

I made the thread about Lastarza ,did I once mention Marciano's name in it?

I made the thread comparing Marciano to the Douglas of Tokyo I haven't even made a pick on it!

I made the thread asking if Marciano was black and undefeated? How would his stature be perceived today?

Please explain how any of these questions are derogotary, disparaging, defamatory,or detrimental towards Marciano in any way ?
Your point is farcical, nonsensical ,infantile, and totally absurd.

You seriously need to take a step back and take stock of yourself.

These 4 threads are quite transparent. They were all made specifically to draw what marcianos detractors consider are the obvious conclusions:

    1. Lastarza wouldn't be very good now and he wasn't very good then, therefore marciano wasn't much better.

    2. Marciano would not be considered great if he were black. Therefore regardless of colour this equals Marciano not being considered great.

    3. Buster Dlouglas was not very good but he is big and still beats Marciano therefore...

    4. Rocky is not the greatest head to head champion of all time. Therefore....

OK, we have both been here a while, and we know how the game works. We have both seen people wage their personal crusades against all sorts of fighters. Key tactics include:

    • Imply that the fighters supporters are delusional, irrational, or unreasonable. This often takes the form of parodying their position, which this thread is more than flirting with.
    • Attack their opposition. Guys like Lastarza, Layne, Matthews et al end up as collateral damage in the war against Marciano, which is a shame because they were significant fighters in their own right, who deserve to be assessed on their own merits/shortcomings.
    • Put them in fantasy fights designed to make them look bad. Basically, try to find the least highly regarded prospective opponents, who a significant number of people will pick over them. Marciano has been up against Morrison, Wilder, and Douglas recently. Fighters who have the physical assets to be plausible opponents, but who are not well regarded for one reason or another.
I am sorry if I am being harsh here, but I try to be fair to fighters who are on the receiving end of attacks of this nature, even if it would support my world view for them to be brought down. For example, I have always pulled up dinovelvet, for his attacks on Wladamir Klitschko.

You have a habit of projecting your thoughts and motives onto others.
    You should curb it.

How do you propose to get Lewis down to 185? Cut off his arms?

Yeah, sure, Rocky beats him then.

I think Dempsey stops him, and would give Langford a decent chance, that's about it in that weight range.
    Fitz?
