George Foreman taking back the heavyweight title rings a bell for me.

I thought Roy looked truly great against John Ruiz, not his best but still a great performance, he looked so much smaller and dominated on so many levels, even got tagged and stood toe to toe, walking Ruiz down with his hands at his waist at points.

I believe that his heavyweight debut was his last truly great performance, which was his fight directly after Woods.:yep

People thought that Evander Holyfield was a shot fighter as early as the first Bowe loss. There were people who thought he was completely shot after the Moorer loss and there was a vocal group of pundits who were genuinely concerned about his safety heading into the Tyson fight.

Sorry but wins over Sheika and Badi-Ajamu don't help your case. Considering the fact that Evander should have arguably been WBA champ at age 46 even in spite of how horrible Valuev fought just gives Evander this victory, however hollow, more and more.

Why is Jones doing this though. Anybody have any insight. I remember seeing a documentary about Jones in the 90s and it showed that he appeared to be quite a shrewd businessman. It can't be just for money, he should have more than enough money and income streams.

Is Jones this passionate about boxing? I guess some guys do it because they simply can't stop, like an addiction, they don't even care about money anymore.

I don't know if money is the issue with Jones but boxers often find themselves in the position of fighting too long because of their spending habits. They buy million dollar homes among other things and the upkeep and maintenance of these homes ultimately costs them in the long run. There are also the bad investments, squandered millions on cars, clothing, jewelry, etc. will almost assuredly lead a fighter past his prime back into the ring. Throw in vulture-like promoters who take their cut as well as the members of a fighter's entourage with their hands out (Mike Tyson had this problem) and you've got a recipe for financial ruin. Roy Jones never struck me as a guy who loved the sport but rather a supertalent who just happened to be head-and-shoulders above everyone else. It is quite possible that Roy has developed an appreciation for the sport that he may not have had earlier in his career now that he is faced with eroding skills and simply being just another fighter in the ring. You'd be surprised how much you can suddenly appreciate something you've done for years when circumstances don't allow you to go out on your own terms. Tarver and Johnson brought Jones down to Earth and people were pleading for Jones to retire. It's not the way he would have wanted things to turn out that's for sure.

I thought he did decently in the center of the ring against Joe Calzaghe. It was on the ropes where he lost the fight in my opinion.
I think Roy Jones is still a good boxer not what he was though.

You said that his abilities havent declined and that he's just guns shy. Thats just not true. He's clearly lost alot of speed and stamina.

His footwork, once one of his greatest attributes,is gone, meaning he's not as elusive as he once was.His reflexes, once sublime, are now mediocre and he lays on the ropes instead of making his opponent miss and countering.Who has he beaten in the past several years?Hanshaw and former welter and ko victim Felix Trinidad, who is not only more shot than Roy is,but Jones couldn't even take him out.Roy Jones Junior is shot.Tarver and Johnson, neither of whom have his resume, proved that not only is he shot, but has been for some time.
