I thought he was the greatest cherrypicker ever... UNTIL Floyd rivaled and surpassed all records.

I guess a prime James Toney and Bernard Hopkins can be considered Cherry Picking along with moving up two weight classes and fighting Ruiz. Marquez you are the biggest hater on these boards. Stop spewing crap and post something that is atleast factual.

RJJ fought some really good guys but to be fair he did fight to many stiffs during his title reign and fighting a shot Mccallum was unnecessary.

    He's 67 years old.

Do we need to bring up the natural aging process, or is it possible to try and make these points without getting painfully generic?

I would say Holyfield after the Czyz fight. Everyone thought he was completely done and he beats Tyson and Moorer.
Jones is different because he was never a true light heavy and now that his speed is slowed substantially hes easy to hit and KO. I still think he beats Jeff Lacy. I dont think Jones is a shot figher, hes just slowed enough that his unorthodox style is a little easier to expose.

    Agreed 100%.

Since Roy was first deemed "shot" after the Johnson fight, he hasn't done **** comparable to what Holyfield has done after he was declared shot following the 3rd Bowe fight. Holy even avenged one of his previous defeats (to Moorer), something Roy has not done in that same time.

Got to give you credit for this post. I totally agree Roy's downfall is much more mental than physical -- you need only look at the way he handled calzaghe's feints to know this. The old Roy would've stuck his tongue out at Joe and ripped his head clean from his shoulders.

No he isn't a world class fighter at this stage. He gets stoped by anyone that is at this point.

I suppose you could say he is a gatekeeper at this point.

this is true but his wasn't NEARLY as bad as people make. i have the agree with the thread title. is roy jones shot? yes, shot to ****. but he can still compete at the top and while he won't beat the best, he'll find out what they're made of and keep them honest.

imagine sugar ray leonard around the time he fought camacho going 12 rounds with hopkins or ali from the holmes fight giving wlad klitschko a headache.

Jones won't beat the elite but his flashes of greatness, however brief, keep all but the very best on their toes all night.
