Yeah I think he's a better fighter. I don't favour anyone beating him at 135. Nor do I favour anyone beating Robinson at 147. Nor do I favour anyone beating Jones at 168 nor 175. Ali is in my top 10 though and is my number 1 HW.

Luckily it isn't a spelling test then eh?

I voted against Jones, not sure what relevance the tally has to whatever point you are trying to make is? In fact what is your point, is that why you're suffering because you have lost what you are trying to say?

All the resume in the world won't stop fighter A beating fighter B though.

You think paper is more reliable, i currently think film is more reliable. I used to rank on resume once upon a time if you remember my posting days back then.

It isn't reliable, nothing really is, that's why I love the sport.

Likewise we've all seen people with incredible resume's and achievements lose to people with inferior resume and achievement.

There are merits all round here, that is my main point. Where someone to say "draw up a list based on resume" we would likely have similar lists. Same with achievement as I'm sure we have similar values there as well. But more generally speaking people ask for lists on what they personally consider the main criteria and for me that is the eye test.

LOL at Jones best performances being against an inexperienced Hopkins, a weight drained sick Toney who moved like he had lead in his ass, and a rusty Virgil Hill who was coming off a loss and one a sided beating. Hallelujah the P4P GOAT is risen!!! LOL. Jesus christ Jones has the thinnest resume of ANYONE claiming to a P4P great fighter and yet some people just refuse to believe anything to the contrary. ****. If I fought a bunch guys in wheel chairs and looked unbeatable these blind lemmings would be claiming I could beat SRR, Greb, Fitz, and Langford all in one night.

In terms of resume, Jones isn’t even close to being a challenger for the p4p crown.

He is a fringe contender at best.

He has two wins that would weigh into the argument (Toney and Ruiz), and outside of that, he is not even in contention.

Could things have been different if he had chosen to go for broke?

I think he could have been a lot more, but I wont speculate what exactly!

I agree. I like Roy Jones Jr. and have always enjoyed watching him fight. His resume is indeed very good. But I don't know if he even makes top 10, and if he does, he's at the very bottom of it.

Come on man. Get real. Whitaker could certainly lose to Duran, but in any case, he is damn near even Duran. They are vice versa 1A and 1B.

I don't favor anyone beating prime Ali at heavy, so if that is your criteria, then you have to look at resumes too, and not just the eye test. Ali is just as great at HW as Pea was as LW, if you're just talking H2H. The Resume has to come into play, and Ali's resume can hang with Whitaker's easily. It may even be better overall.

Mate I'm sorry but I can't take this post seriously. You are probably the most stubborn poster I know in terms of predictions.

Anyone can beat anyone on the night. But no one would I favour to beat Whittaker at 135. I would never bet against him.

Imagine if the old timers had access to the juice like ROID Jones did. He wouldn't have a prayer against Sugar ROID Robinson, HGHarry Greb, or the BALCO Tar Baby Sam Langford

What advantage did Jones have even if he used roids (which hasn't been proved officially)?

Strength? His style is not about strength. Being too muscular would cause a degrading effect on his speed.

Stamina - again, a no, as his punch rate was pretty low at 175lbs, and he wasn't a mover a-la Pep or Ali.

Speed? It comes from genetics, and he showed he had exceptional speed when at a young age as an amateur, and he has retained it even now at 40+. You don't see 40+ sportsmen showing more speed than their much younger opponents, do you, even in sports where using such things is an ordinary thing?

Doing more and harder training than he'd be capable of otherwise? Why does he need to train that much if, according to his haters, he doesn't have any skills to polish, and, regardless, what he had to learn about boxing he had learned by the time he met Toney, he didn't show any more improvement after that.

Did he use it to simply have a more impressive look that would scare his opponents?

Roy was certainly not the best 175 pound fighter that has ever fought. Tarver asked Roy was there any excuses tonight...and KO'ed him with one shot. Roy did not make any excuse so please do not make any for him. He was not prime at 175 and if he faced Charles at 175 he would have been in a world a trouble. At heavyweight he faced one guy. John Ruiz. Him beating John Ruiz was not impressive because he did not have to fight. He punched once an moved forever. He threw about 15 punches a round. Ruiz never got close. Incidently Ruiz had nearly 25 pounds on Roy so, that blows up this weight arguement. If Roy was facing Joe Louis or Ali it would have been over with a frightening sound of his head hitting the mat, similar to when he was banged in by Johnson, at 175.

    This is the problem.

You favor Jones over "all that you have seen on film". We have a lot of fighters on film from 160-Heavyweight and since you have "done your research" I would assume you have seen most of the greats, yet you did not vote for Jones as the greatest fighter of all-time. Instead you are making a stand in that direction the at least two or maybe three people have taken issue with. Now, you have your oppinion like anyone else and I respect it. But, you cannot give two opposing points and tell me it is the same. Either you "favor Jones over all those you have seen on film" or you don't.

I only need to look at your Whitaker, one T, as p4p number 2. You are impressed by performance regardless of quality of opponent. Well, it that is the case, shouldn't Pep be ranked higher? To my eyes he is a better defender, equal in offense, maybe superior, and he looks amazing doing it...against better competition. Whitaker ever beat a guy like Sandy Sadler?

Last thing. I used to spell Whitacker wrong all the time. But, when I got a healthy dose of watching Pernell Whitaker and respecting his skill, I learned out of respect how to spell it right. If I had him ranked as my number all-time fighter, his name would be spelling right and in all caps.
