A very young RJJ knocked out one of the most seasoned veterans at that time with 1 left hook while controlling the fight and leading on the cards. Malinga lost a controversial decision against Eubank and came of a loss against Nigel Benn whom he later avenged to capture the wbc 168 title. In reality Malinga won both fights against Benn and was just robbed the first time. The fight itself was mostly fought at long range with Jones' lead right hand playing a significant role to discourage Malinga to come in and make a brawl of it.A picture left hook thrown with tremendous speed ended the fight. It proved Roy had a great punch(Malinga was down against Eubank due to a right cross but was not stunned and far from out) and was so athletically gifted that a classic boxer like "sugarboy" (who was always in the fight whoever he fought)was simply outclassed. It may have been a boring fight for the fans who liked a good brawl but for the purists the performance by RJJ was close to perfection.
Malinga was an excellent fighter. I wouldn't say one of the most underrated wins ever, but certainly a great win.
Roy's career in general is sinfully underrated. He has atleast two wins over A level opposition and he's absolutely dominated a shitload of B level opposition, and he somehow still gets touted as " safety first ".
yeah jones fought many good fights toney ,bhop, paz ,mike m, Montell Griffin when he was still considered good after he beat toney hes just a shadow now clinton woods and the fact he went up to HW and beat Ruiz is still impressive even though it is ruiz
Roy is hands down a legend in boxing. I hate how people make it out to seem that he never fought anybody, its just that he was that much better than everybody that it made it seem like he was fighting bums
