This guy https://boxrec.com/media/images//2/27/Perez.Ismaikel.jpg became a CW and was in better shape than Ruiz at HW. EDIT: Meant to post this on general forum.
I seriously doubt Ruiz would be more than 175 if he was in decent looking shape. Possibly 160 or 168 weight class, maybe drain down to 154. But Ruiz has always been fat, since he was a kid, so it wouldn't do him any good dieting down to that size. His style has been learned and developed in his fat body.
I don’t think so. Andy is very thick framed, so even if he changed his diet and got in shape he could carry 220 lbs very well. Andy could even carry 240 lbs pretty well if he cut out the candy bars and cakes. When Coach Sal from my old gym used to train Andy almost 10 years ago he got Andy close to something resembling good shape at around 235 lbs, but Andy didn’t stick to the diet and would sometimes blow off coming to the gym, so his weight shot back up and Coach Sal stopped training Andy.
He's a pretty stocky guy. In the best shape of his life he is still probably well over 200 pounds with his best weight probably being in the 220 to 230 range. The guy has good heavyweight power and incredibly fast hands. He has already shown that when in shape he can compete at the highest level at heavyweight. Not sure why he would even want to fight at Cruiserweight since the money is nowhere near as good as it is at HW.
No. He's a naturally big framed guy who carries the weight well. He wouldn't be able to box as fast and as fluidly as he does if he was naturally small.
any guy who's 6'2" could obviously , with 24 hour weigh ins, get down to CW, without becoming emaciated or whatever, if they really wanted to. but trying to look beyond the flab, in terms of the size of his, I suppose, skeleton he looks more or less a natural heavyweight to me, albeit a smallish one. I liked the look of him for the Parker fight, 255lbs or so, not that it seemed to help with the result. I should think the lowest 'fight night' weight that he could be fully effective at would be about maybe 220-230 lbs... so I guess at the weigh in he could be quite a bit, but almost certainly not all, of the way down to 200.
Yes, he could boil down to CW if he really wanted. But it takes time to adjust your style after dropping a huge amount of weight, and there's no guarantee he'd be more effective until he'd done so. He seems to be built a bit like Tua, or maybe someone like Bonavena, so there's no reason he can't get down in the low 200s if he really tried.
He's always been what some like to describe as a fat people This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
Here he is alongside a couple of actual CWs and a LHW I bet The Ghoul beat the **** out of him during those sparring sessions This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected But he's very nimble on his feet for someone carrying that much blubber This content is protected
Everyone knocking him about his weight but there's really only 2 fighters that you would definitely pick to beat him at any given time. Wilder would have been bombed out against the Ruiz that fought Joshua the first time.
154? The guy is a fat ass but he's 270+ he's not carrying 120 pounds of fat he's a large framed human he'd be 200+ even in shape. Are you basing this purely off his height/reach or what?
