John Ruiz isn't underrated, if anything, he is overrated. Another example is this thread. IMO he is one of the most boring hw of all time.

Exactly. People look at his record without recognizing he cheated to get "victories" he would otherwise have been able to get on ability. And his connections with King allowed him to get away with it.

Ruiz is a fraud - a classic case of a talentless fighter who wouldn't have gotten anywhere without the influence of a powerful promoter. Exhibit A of Boxing Corruption.

He's not the most "underrated" HW of all time, he's the most FRAUDULENT!

The most boring heavyweight I have ever watched. Stone (his coach) brought more entertainment to the table than a Ruiz fight did.

I wouldn't say "underrated." The criticism he gets is justified imo. I feel he was a decent heavyweight belt holder.

Ruiz was nothing but a ploy by Don King to try and scam the Latino Boxing fanbase.

King thought if he could get a Latino Heavyweight Champion (Ruiz was never anything but a beltholder) that he would be able to put him on PPV and the Latino fanbase would buy the PPV's.

Well King made a mistake in he had a fighter who:

    1. Had no skill

    2. Had a horrible boring style

    3. Is nothing but a glorified club fighter

The con did not work. People saw right through the charade. I remember reading interviews with King after he signed Ruiz he kept saying what a huge draw a Latino Heavyweight Champion would be. Too bad it ended up being a talentless boring fraud in Ruiz.

That's why Don King should sign Chris Arreola. Arreola has a great style and the skills to beat a lot of top HW's, King could get Arreola the WBA belt.

Ruiz was a very, very difficult fighter to beat.

Ruiz is regarded as a joke by anyone who has actually seen him fight

The only people who give him any praise whatsoever obviously just look at BoxRec without seeing how many of those "wins" were complete garbage, the result of either incompetent or corrupt judges/refs

He is the first one who made a prime Hasim Rhaman look foolish like an amateur. I know Hasim was knocked out before but he had never looked so bad in a fight before.
