Is Russell Brand a good enough tune-up for Ward, before the Krusher?

Alex Brand is a good opponent for a tune up. Only lost once and that was a close fight on points to Badou Jack. I am suprised at the low level of knowledge by some posters here on how boxing works. Ward will win but Ward beats pretty much everyone, what sort of opponent do you expect him to fight for a tune up?

Happens all the time the matchmakers select from lower divisions. Brand will weigh close to 175. It is a tune up and that is the key. Ward has a multi-million dollar fight with Kovalev, only a complete idiot would put him in a fight that would get him beat and blow those millions. So if you want to play matchmaker what would you do? or Alex Brand 25-1, 19 ko's, 1 loss to the now WBC champion on points, last time out upset a prospect. He will weigh the same as Andrew Ward on fight night. He is perfect.

He's not the worst opponent, his record is pretty good ... if only he was a 175er. I think Ward will regret these easy fights when he steps into battle with the Krusher.

They should have got a legit LHW IMO. Someone like Chilemba or ideally Cleverly. I can't imagine either of those would have been too taxing for Ward but they would have given him good work.

I don't know the purses involved but tune ups dont equal lots of dollars. I expect each are receiving $25,000. Someone like Cleverely would want 4 times that. Where does the extra money come from, everything is about budgets.

Ward can beat Kovalev only one way, with speed. I expect he is likely to come in a couple of pounds inside 175.

Brand is a 39 year old semi retired fighter. Only fought twice since 2014.:bbb He probably weighs 200 pounds and couldn't make it to 168 in one month anyway. That's why he took it at 175. Its going to be an embarrassing fight as Brand will look worse than Fat Paul SMITH. But in Oracle they will cheer if Ward punches on bodies from the morgue.:hammertime

Like Sugar said, someone who fights at 175. And he can't use the tune up defense anymore when he's already been back for two fights. Is his whole career going to be a tune up for a fight that never happens.

If you are making millions of dollars every time you step into the ring you shouldn't be fighting any tune ups. Every fight should be amazing both in terms of challenges and excitement. Ward is offering neither. This fight is a con job to bilk fans and television executives out of their money.

    :deal

Exactly - don't make your fans pay top dollar for second or even third rate contests.

Disgraceful that a fighter of Ward's calibre believes he needs tune ups. Maybe Ward can sign a paralympian for his next bout?

Ward is not a real fast fighter who speed kills people. His speed is a bit above average but nothing blazing. So stop with all these easy one liners on how he will win.:hi: That goes for both guys. SInce when has Ward been some speed demon? :deal:nono
