Man, Sam Peter was the great heavyweight savior for years. now he's apparently a complete zero and always was...

Ever think that he was a good fighter that was just totally outclassed by a great fighter and even he knew it?

Other than Trevor Berbick I can't name a former WBC Heavyweight Champion that was as bad as Peter. :huh

At least Leon Spinks can say he has a win over Ali. Okay it's an older Ali, but Sam Peter's best win is over an older Oleg Maskaev.

if someone was watching their "first ever heavyweight title fight" and saw Peter as the champ...they would think boxing was a joke...... peter is an embarrassment

I thought Trevor Berbick was good..... VERY TUFF!! But he had a body suited for football more so than boxing... R.I.P.

berbick had an upper body suited to grid iron, legs suited to women`s ballet.

    nor me.
berbick was in shape all the time, but many of the early 80`s heavys like bey were woefull.

i thought tim witherspoon was by far ther most talented of the early to mid 80`s tubby`s .

a motivated witherspoon would have given tyson by far his biggest test when the tyson steam train got going and IMO would have been one of the very few fighters who would have gone in against tyson not beaten mentally before the first bell rang.

Sam looked like a world beater when he defeated Maskaev. He was patient, used the jab, head movement and other subtle things in that fight. He came off the floor to beat Jameel McCline and showed heart. I think he ranks above Leon as far as skil. Leon was a caveman. He fought his opponents like he was hitting the heavy bag. I don't recall one Spinks fight where he hit the floor and got up to win. He's only famous because he beat Ali. If he had beaten a belt holder Tony Tubbs to win the title instead of Ali, no one would care.

Leon Spinks had **** poor management and lousy training...... Though, even though Leon was often out partying before a fight, he usually looked pretty solid and muscular prior to his fights of 1987.... By 1988, Spinks began to appear bloated when he was up around 220 pounds..... Leon Spinks between 195 to 205 pounds was pretty solid.... The 190 against Qawi in '86 almost killed him... That was WAY too light for Leon Spinks...
