Exactly I don't know how anyone could defend a 28 yr old HW in the prime of his career going into the biggest fight of his life weighing 253+ when he is barely 6 ft tall. I just don't get it.
i think peter can perform at that weight, but would be better coming in at 230. i completely blame his conditioning and diet. anyone can lose weight, especially if its a huge part of your full time job. imagine spending hours a day working out, instead of being at work.
I watched him train and he would KILL most men on earth and is obviously not a lazy man if he fought 24 rds with toney and 12 with wlad
He's naturally thick, but thats no excuse for him not being able to move well, or have a decent game plan against a guy he knew was going to use his height advantage. Seemed like he tried to use the jab, but he was also a stationary target who went straight in when he tried to go in. He let Vitali control the distance, Vitali didn't even try to clinch! This is also an example of the type of game plan a tall fighter can use without clinching.
see that's where the line is crossed...u could never achieve what he has achieved and he is in better condition and is way tougher than you...so how is that true?
i agree with that..it isnt so much conditioning as smarts and planning...I think his corner and team think he can just walk through anyone since he dropped wlad 3 times and vitaly hadnt fough in 4 years...and they didnt have an effective plan...that being said he couldn't beat vitaly in 100 fights IMO
While the weight was a factor, it wasn't near as significant as him trying to fight 6'8 Vitali Klitschko like he fought 5'9 James Toney. That camp is a dud. And Sam Peter really has only himself to blame for keeping those people around and not trying to work with better trainers.
The jab to the body is what he should have used. And he should have kept a very high guard as the Klitschkos are too tall to attack the body. If they try, they line up for a straight right or a left hook. Against Wladimir he kept a very high guard and he pressed consistently. Yea he ate alot of punches but he absorbed alot of them on his guard too, or at least deflected some of the damage. Against Vitali he was doing this stupid **** he learned fighting a much smaller James Toney. He should have spent some time watching how Ray Mercer handled Lennox Lewis. You don't need alot of upper body movement. As long as your opponent is focused on your head anyways. You can get away with a high guard. High guard, press hard behind it and shoot the jab right at the chest once in range. Let him back up to avoid the jab and take two steps in and throw the left hook or the straight right. Keep him backing up so you can get leverage on a step-to right hand or left hook. Ideally that was what I expected. I mean Vitali doesn't clinch. So there is no need for you to stand there waiting for him to fall in. It simply won't happen. Unless you sit on the ropes like Sanders did.
Too bad he was too fat and slow to even try, I never liked Peter but after this **** I hope Haye or someone KTFO of him, what a disgrace.
